THE MUSEUM’S COLLECTIONS Since Asger Jorn’s death in 1973, the museum’s art collection has steadily grown, and has more than doubled, owing to purchases and donations from artists and collectors. Today, the museum owns a large collection of Danish and foreign art, which is on view in the changing exhibitions. A count indicates that 452 artists are represented by the museum, of which onlyMUSEUM JORN
An important area of research at Museum Jorn is Asger Jorn’s multifaceted work. This includes not only his artistic output, but also thousands of unpublished manuscript pages, including preliminary works, drafts of his many publications and correspondence with important actors in the art world. THE MUSEUM ASSOCIATION'S STATUTES 1. PURPOSE The association’s purpose is to support Museum Jorn and offer members artistic and aesthetic experiences. §2. The German sculptor Stephan Balkenhol (born in 1957), whose figurative sculptures have been present in public spaces around the world for over thirty years now, demonstrates to the beholder like hardly any other artist clearly and grippingly a FROM THE COLLECTIONS Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) was a French painter and sculptor. The son of a wine wholesaler, his first 40 years oscillated between art and the wine trade - but in the end he chose art. Kirkeby grows up on Bispebjerg and in Husum. Already in middle schools he goes out into nature to draw and sketch. Museum Jorn’s history and collections are characterised by the longstanding commitment of local art enthusiasts and artists, particularly Asger Jorn. Museum Jorn’s history goes back to 1940, when the museum association of Silkeborg and Environs purchased its first works of art. Among these initial purchases were the works ofthe exhibition
ABOUT - MUSEUM JORN
The city of Silkeborg and Museum Jorn wishes in close cooperation to develop a new Museum Jorn in the city center. The project involves both a new location of Museum Jorn in the center of Silkeborg as well as a brand new museum concept that reflects Asger Jorn's visionary thoughts and serves as an artistic powerhouse locally as well asinternationally.

A new Museum Jorn will enable us to challenge the habitual idea of an art museum: by establishing a Ministry of Disruption, we will create a space that is based on art and will challenge, surprise, disrupt, and inspire us to break habits and boundaries and to view the world anew. Both parents were teachers and, following the early death of his father, his mother Maren Jørgensen moved to Silkeborg with her six children. 1938-56 CHILDHOOD Per Kirkeby is born September 1st in Copenhagen as the oldest son to engineer Alfred Kirkeby Christensen and Lucy Helga Alice Nisbeth Bertelsen. Kirkeby grows up on Bispebjerg and in Husum. Already in middle schools he goes out into nature to draw and sketch.
