PROMOTING EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN LIVING IN 6. Eliminating work requirement provisions that are much harsher than required by federal law . Federal rules require a parent to participate in a work activity for 30 hours a week, or 20 hours if their child is under six, but the state goes beyond that by requiring between 35 and 40 hours in unpaid work placements.
