CLEAN ENERGY
The primary focus of Dutch energy policy is a transition to a low carbon energy system. By 2050, the Netherlands wants to reduce its emissions of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) to zero. The government plans to make 16% of all energy used in the Netherlands sustainable by 2023. HYDROGEN: THE MISSING LINK IN THE TRANSITION TO CLEAN Climate change is possibly the biggest challenge facing the world today, and no single country can hope to fight it alone. In order to succeed, we must pool together our knowledge and resources and speed up the development and implementation of clean technologies. The Dutch hydrogen community has recently issued the first International Hydrogen Guide highlighting unique Dutch solutions to HIGH TECH SYSTEMS AND MATERIALS (HTSM) The sector High Tech Systems and Materials (HTSM) offers modern, innovative new solutions to technological challenges. The sector consists of a well-functioning ecosystem of specialised companies and knowledge institutions. Their strong links lead to high concentrations of tech companies in areas with technical universities. LET’S CLOSE THE LOOP ON THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY The Netherlands is aiming to develop a fully circular economy by 2050. An economy without waste, where everything runs on reusable raw materials. This goal brings significant challenges to the textile industry: an industry known as one of the most polluting in the world. CREATING A BLUEPRINT FOR A BLUE ECONOMY The overarching strategy is to develop an ‘Exploration’ roadmap to remove obstacles to a sustainable blue economy. The Exploration fills the gaps in the production chain, to start up food production or research the ecological preconditions of the North Sea. The first milestone is to develop a test location large enough to measure theeffects.
