Contact NWAC Forecasters 20210315_HIDDEN LAKE PEAKS A very large glide avalanche (WS-NS-R2-D3-G) occurred late last week on a north aspect at 3800ft. The avalanche released from a convex rock slab and ran 500 vertical feet with two lobes of debris (up to 10ft deep) crossing NF-1540 approximately .25 miles away from the Hidden Lake Lookout Trailhead. Other open glide cracks were visible above the AVALANCHE GEAR AND EQUIPMENT Avalanche Transceiver ( Beacons) We recommend using a modern beacon with 3 antennas, and no older than 5 years. Put brand new batteries in the beacon, check for loose battery terminals and corrosion. Visually inspect the beacon for cracks, screen damage, or other signs of damage. Check functionality of toggle switch between Send, Search, andOff.
20210410_HURRICANE RIDGE Sunrise Ridge, Hurricane Ridge, Olympic Nat. Park. Crowns of 6 inches to a foot of new snow from last nights storm and blow in. Was not bonding with the freeze melt crust from the last few sunny days. Temp was about 22 degrees at 10am, with very light wind at the time, evidence of stronger wind overnight. Snow quality was great, even inthe sun
20210220_ROARING RIDGE At 3,000 we found 4" of moist surface snow over a ski supportable crust. We observed natural roller balls and small wet loose avalanches, and were able to easily trigger very small wet loose avalanches on test slopes. At 4,000 ft on a N aspect we found 150 cms. of right-side up snow above the 2/11 crust. There were very smallfaceted grains
20210113_FRENCH CABIN KNOX CREEK Comments: The avalanche crown was visible near the top of the face pictured in the first photo. The avalanche ran several hundreds of feet across the road and down into a drainage below. 20210209_ICICLE CREEK Other. Size: Size 3: Could bury and destroy a car, damage a truck, destroy a wood frame house, or break a few trees. Elevation: 6600.Aspect: E.
