UK HealthCare @ukhealthcare Dave Hoover of Stanford is the first person in Kentucky – and among a few in the country – to have a double lung transplant after contracting COVID-19. After three months in the hospital, he’s back at home, basking in every moment with his wife and their two children. “Home never felt so good,” Dave said. “I was afraid I’d never see it again.” “We have always appreciated everything we have been blessed with, but going through something like this changes you,” Emily, Dave’s wife, said. “Dave was healthy before COVID. I have hope that Dave will walk our daughter down the aisle one day and that he will be able to coach our son in little league sports.” “Dave and his family have been very brave, motivated and committed—which helped get them through the waiting time and surgery,” said Dr. Maher Baz, medical director of lung transplant at the UK Transplant Center. “But this case should also serve as a reminder for our citizens to get vaccinated. This pandemic is not quite over as we are still seeing severe lung damage almost exclusively in unvaccinated patients. It also should serve as a call and gratitude for organ donation and organ donors. Click the link in our bio to read Dave’s inspiring story.10 hr. ago

UK HealthCare @ukhealthcare Congratulations to this year’s 2021 Nurses Week Award winners! During a year of intense stress and long hours, they continually rose to the occasion, doing everything in their power to keep our patients healthy and our community safe. “Even during this year with many unknowns, these leaders continued to strive for quality care for every patient, every time. In the words of Martin Luther King Jr., ‘The time is always right to do the right thing,’ and they live by these words. The nominees highlighted have demonstrated their ability to always do the right thing and to innovate, create and inspire. This is our time to celebrate their achievements and to celebrate the excellent care provided at UK HealthCare and Eastern State Hospital. Thank you for your clinical expertise, for holding a hand, for listening for a moment and for caring.” – Gwen Moreland, DNP, RN, NE-BC, UK HealthCare Chief Nurse Executive1 day ago
