THE AYERS ROCK CAMPGROUND The cabins and rented tents are a bit dearer, but still easily the best deal in the whole resort if you don't have your own camping equipment. The Ayers Rock Campground is located on the southern side of the Ayers Rock Resort, right next to the Outback Pioneer Hotel. That means you can walk over in the evening for a meal the Pioneer Bar& Grill.
SETTING UP A 4WD TO CAMP In September it's HOT up north. You don't want to sleep in the van, trust me. You don't even want a tent. Just a mozzie dome will do. I have one that takes about five seconds to set up. Really. It works like an umbrella, only that you pull a string at the top instead of pushing the joint from underneath. BEST WAY TO TRAVEL OUTBACK FROM CAIRNS TO ALICE SPRINGS It's over 2400 km from Cairns to Alice Springs. Uluru is another 450 km further on. Coober Pedy is over 700 km from Uluru. I doubt you will be able to drop a campervan in Coober Pedy. And if, there'll likely be a hefty fee. That is a very long drive you are planning there, and there isn't much to see (except for the Devils Marbles) until you WINTER TRIP TO ULURU! Winter Trip to Uluru! by Paul Webb. The Kakadu and Litchfield national parks are very different, but the difference is not in the quality, it's in the size. Neither is "better". Kakadu is simply a lot bigger. CLIMATE CHANGE IN Giles is a small Australian desert weather station, located at the corner where Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory meet. It's the edge of the Tanami desert. In the last 50 years the rainfall in Giles has doubled. No doubt, an increase from 150 mm to 300 mm means that we are still talking about a desert. THE OUTBACK AUSTRALIA TRAVEL GUIDE A GUIDE TO THE REAL AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK This Australian Outback travel guide is WRITTEN BY A REAL PERSON, WHO HAS A VERY REAL LIFE HERE OUT BACK. That's why the guide covers a lot more than the usual tourist attractions in Outback Australia.
(Of course I cover those as well.) The Australia Travel Guide contains everything I've discovered and learned over the years, LIVING AND TRAVELLING IN THE OUTBACK OFAUSTRALIA:
* You will see that the Australian Outback is not all desert(with one big rock
and a few kangaroos
...),
far from it. And it's not as dangerous as they make you believe. * Learn about our snakes,
discover the myths about our spiders,
and find out how to stay alive amongst our crocodiles.
* Learn about the issues surrounding the Ayers Rock climb,
how to avoid the tourist crowds in Kakadu,
hike through Kings Canyon and explore Katherine Gorgein a canoe.
* Find a cheap flight and some jet lag remedies,
a cheap hotel
or a free camp site
,
and if you are young and adventurous, I can even show you the easiest way to get a Working Holiday Visa for Australia AND to find a job.
* And that's just a start. Whether you are dreaming about or planning a trip to Outback Australia, you will find some real help here and—where needed—the inspiration to finally make your dreamscome true!
SEVENTEEN YEARS IN THE AUSTRALIAN OUTBACKAND COUNTING...
The Australian Outback has been my home for over seventeen years. I get seriously homesick every time I try to leave. Homesick although I'm not originally from Australia... I ARRIVED HERE AS AN AUSTRALIA TRAVELLER MYSELF, backpacking up and down, around and across the continent, usually on my own (though I hadn't planned it that way...) What happened then was that I fell hopelessly in love with theOutback, and stayed
.
I CREATED THE OUTBACK AUSTRALIA TRAVEL GUIDE to show you why, and to help you with the preparation for your own trip. The Australian Outback is more beautiful than you ever imagined, to travel here gives you a sense of space and freedom you never thought possible, and it is nowhere near as dangerous as they try to make youbelieve.
ALL YOU NEED IS ENOUGH INFORMATION, AND A REASONABLE MEASURE OF COMMON SENSE. I like to think that I can offer you plenty of both, so letsget started.
HOW TO FIND YOUR WAY AROUND THE AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK (GUIDE) This website has several main areas: * The TRAVEL IN AUSTRALIA section tells you about the different ways to get here and to get around Australia. From cheap Australia flights to preventing jet lag,
from the Ghan train
to
outback driving tips to hitchhiking, it's covered here. * Under VISAS FOR AUSTRALIA you find information regarding the different visa classes, where and how to get them, what you can and can't do with a visitor visa or a work visa for Australiaetc.
* The section about WORK AND TRAVEL IN AUSTRALIA has more information about the working holiday visa and about finding work in Australia. (Even how to get a lucrative jobin mining
.)
* Then there is an area that has background information about THEAUSTRALIAN OUTBACK
as well as travel information, specifically for outback travellers. * And last but not least there is the real heart of the site: hundreds of pages that cover different DESTINATIONS IN THE AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK (outback towns,
AUSTRALIAN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS,
Australian national parks).
Now, I realise that this is all a bit overwhelming, and that's why I have created a FREE OUTBACK TRAVEL GUIDEBOOK to get you started. It tells you everything you need to know to plan a trip in the Australian Outback. You can get access to it by subscribing to this site (for free of course) through the box below.
