FREE CAMPING ON PUBLIC LANDS By Amy Whitley Dispersed camping is the term used for any camping that’s away from developed campgrounds. This summer especially, dispersed camping is a great way to ensure social distancing (and avoid disappointment if campground reservations are canceled as state restrictions change). This event is a fundraiser for both the Healthy Island Youth Initiative, and the South Whidbey Community Parks & Recreation District with proceeds split between them. The Chum Run appeals to the entire community, from casual runners and walkers to elite athletes. Our mission is to encourage running and a healthy HOT TUBBING IN LAKE UNION Putzing around Lake Union at 4 mph By Jamie Achtmeyer How often do you get to putz around an in-city lake in a hot tub? In my opinion, not often enough. This spring my friends and I were lucky enough to snag a Saturday afternoon time slot from Hot Tubs Boats, a nine-year-old company located on the west shore of Seattle’s Lake Union. An unassuming place, we descended the stairs from SUMMERFEST MEETS TOUR DE OUTBACK 2021 This year Lake County in southeast Oregon is happy and excited to announce that we are partnering with the Warner Canyon Summerfest to put on an exciting day of outdoor recreation, food, music and fun for the family! Save the date June 19, 2021 at Warner Canyon Ski Hill. This amazing event offers two picturesque bike rides—25 miles and 65 miles in length, a 22 mile mountain bike ride and two BEST PLACES TO PADDLE PUGET SOUND Highlights: The intricate sandstone shoreline of Sucia is a special place to paddle. The wildlife is amazing, and the waters are home to sea lion, porpoise and orca. Best time to go: The month of September is optimal because the summer crowds are gone but the weather is still fantastic. Things to know: Sucia Island is only a 2-mile paddle from 9 EFFECTIVE SKI EXERCISES TO PREPARE YOU FOR SKIING SEASON By Christa Burkett I don’t care if you’re new to the sport, or if you’ve been skiing since the very first day, you can’t deny the fact that skiing is an intense, arduous physical activity. Sure, from the bottom of the hill, throughout the chalet window, it might look like skiers are slowly making their way down a gentle slope.
