Falling vaccine coverage threatens the ability of immunisation to offer herd protection and to reduce the use or misuse of antibiotics. SFAM | BLACK HISTORY IN MICROBIOLOGY 2020 has been a crazy year, microbiology has suddenly found itself at the top of every news programme, with scary numbers and panic bulk-buying aplenty. I would never have believed that the whole world would turn its focus away from a global pandemic and focus on an 8 minute video, but that is exactly what happened. George Floyd’s murder was caught on video and spread faster than COVID-19. SFAM | MEMBERSHIP GRADES SfAM has 6 membership grades: Early career scientist membership is for those that are beginning their career in science, whether they are students, researchers, or new to the field. Successful abstracts will be contacted after one week, and asked to send us their presentation and video abstract by 14 March 2021. Oral presenters will be eligible to recieve £100 as compensation for their time. Posters. SFAM | PHD HARDSHIP AWARD PhD Hardship Award. The PhD Hardship Award is available as an emergency measure for Full, ECS or International Members of SfAM who are under the direction of a supervisor. Maximum Award: £3,000- 9,000. You do not need to apply for the maximum amount. This is a competitive award and limited to between 5-10 offers per annum. SFAM | SMALL RESEARCH PROJECTS AND EQUIPMENT FUND The Small Research Projects and Equipment Fund is available for SfAM members supervising a postgraduate research student. Maximum award: 3,000. You do not need to apply for the maximum amount. Deadline: applications must be received at least 6 weeks prior to the projectstart date.
