HOW TO CLEAN THE SKIN AROUND THE STOMA To clean the skin around your stoma, all you really need to use is warm water and a washcloth (or good quality paper towels). The use of gauze or gloves is not usually necessary, although you can use them if you feel more comfortable. For those that prefer to use soap to clean around the stoma, it’s best to use a very mild soap. HOW TO EMPTY, CLEAN AND CHANGE YOUR LEG BAG Rinse out the leg bag with cold water twice, shaking vigorously for at least 10 seconds both times. Drain the water into the toilet. Fill the empty bag to about 1/2 full with 1 part vinegar and 3 parts water (1:3). Soak the bag for 20-30 minutes. Rinse the bag out with warm water and hang it up to dry. TIPS AND TRICKS TO AVOID OSTOMY PANCAKING Make sure to have the waistband sit just above the stoma, applying pressure to the top of the bag. This and more leg room will encourage the stool to fall properly. Scrub pants work well for me at work because the waistband applies pressure and the pants are loose, allowing the stool to fall down. Tuck in your bag. GRAVITY FEEDING: SETTING THE FLOW RATE Updated 9/15/2020. Gravity feeding is a method of feeding that allows formula to flow out of the bag and into your feeding tube with the assistance of gravity. Generally, this type of feeding will take 30 to 60 mins to deliver 8 oz (or 250 ml) of formula. The rate, or speed, at which the formula travels through the tubing is controlled by a rollerclamp.

CONCEALING AN OSTOMY BAG Like Martha says, many of these products or gimmicky and either impractical or uncomfortable or both. I have not tried the underwear–pricey per pair compared to FOL or Hanes briefs–but when I have to wear a jacket with my shirt tucked in and pants, then I have found the unisex wraps from Ostomysecrets (part of ConvaTec) to workOK.
