SHSMO Announces New Hours for Visitors. May 11, 2021. The State Historical Society of Missouri has updated hours at locations across the state, beginning Tuesday, May 18. The new hours are as follows: The Research Center at the Center for Missouri Studies in Columbia will be open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10a.m.

The collection includes maps dating back to the early 1700s. Most of the maps deal with the settlement and development of Missouri, North America, the United States, and the Louisiana Purchase. Our goal is to provide a freely searchable database of historic Missouri newspapers from every county. By partnering in the Missouri Digital Newspaper Project, the State Historical Society of Missouri will provide: Project management. CIVIL WAR IN SOUTHWEST MISSOURI The Civil War in many areas of the Trans-Mississippi theater have been relatively unnoticed by scholars, and few digitized materials are available from the region. Two decorated Army veterans and Buffalo Soldiers co-founded what is today the 9th & 10th (Horse) Cavalry Association on July 28, 1966.
