2017 Annual Report. In 2017, SPACE stayed curious as we celebrated our fifteenth birthday, garnered our first National Endowment for the Arts grant, made long-needed gallery and facilities updates, deepened our community impact, and oversaw an executive transition to boot. The Kindling Fund supports artist-organized projects that engage audiences and incorporate the visual arts in inventive and meaningful ways. The Kindling Fund distributes ~$65,000 worth of grants ranging from $1,500 – $5,000 to artists across the state of Maine each year. SPACE is pleased to present HOTLINE, an interactive group show featuring soundworks by artists, musicians, scholars, performers and poets. SPACE purchased its Congress Street home in 2015, saving the below-market artist studios on the upper floors of our venue and gallery. SPACE purchased its Congress Street home in 2015, saving the below-market artist studios on the upper floors of our venue and gallery. The staff worked to convert one of the studios into a visiting artist residency facility, piloting a single-studio residency program alongside SPACE friends, studio artists, and collaborators. The SPACE Studios building is in the Durant Block, which was built around 1908. Since then, it has housed makers and purveyors of all kinds. 2017 Annual Report. In 2017, SPACE stayed curious as we celebrated our fifteenth birthday, garnered our first National Endowment for the Arts grant, made long-needed gallery and facilities updates, deepened our community impact, and oversaw an executive transition to boot. The Kindling Fund supports artist-organized projects that engage audiences and incorporate the visual arts in inventive and meaningful ways. The Kindling Fund distributes ~$65,000 worth of grants ranging from $1,500 – $5,000 to artists across the state of Maine each year. With a focus on risk and experimentation, successful projects value PUNCTURES: TEXTILES IN DIGITAL AND MATERIAL TIME SPACE is pleased to host the exhibition Punctures: Textiles in Digital and Material Time, curated by Ekrem Serdar of Squeaky Wheel Film & Media Art Center in Buffalo, NY.Drawing from the little-known but expansive history connecting media arts and textile production, the exhibition features artists invested in the material, critical, and liberatory politics of their intersections.RILEY WATTS
Riley Watts. Riley Watts is a multidisciplinary dance artist and producer in Portland, Maine.
