In this issue, we recognize the tireless hard work of the Senior Services Department (SSD) and all that they do to care for the SRPMIC HOSTS U.S. NAVY’S ANNUAL PINNING CEREMONY On January 29, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community hosted the Navy’s annual Chief Petty Officer pinning ceremony, which was held at the USS Arizona Memorial Gardens at Salt River. The ceremony was virtual, with seven sailors being pinned that day: three here on tribal land and four in SRPMIC STUDENTS BEGIN NEW SCHOOL YEAR August 19, 2020. 796. One of the biggest hurdles in adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic is safely opening schools for children to begin the new school year. Here in Salt River, there is a solid plan in place for kids to start school from home. The new school semester started on August 3 for students in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa IndianCommunity.
NEW NAME FOR THE NEACC: ‘RIVER PEOPLE HEALTH CENTER’ Since July 15, 2019, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community has been taking entries from Community members to help name the new Northeast Ambulatory Care Center that is currently being built in the Community. The naming contested ended on January 30, 2020, and the judging panel has finally announced its CULTURAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT TEACHES O’ODHAM AND PIIPAASH The O’odham Piipaash Language Program of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Cultural Resources Department offered two different language classes over Zoom at the beginning of this year. With designs completed, buildings demolished and staff relocated, all that is left is to start construction, which will begin in March.
