Our year-long study focused on three NHS sites that had taken steps to encourage their staff to relax and recharge in green space. With new funding from the Government’s Green Recovery Challenge Fund, we are appointing three Nature Recovery Rangers to develop a programme of green space activities and community engagement at specific NHS sites in Bristol, Liverpool and London. SUSTAINABLE PRIMARY CARE The NHS contributes 4-5% of the UKs carbon emissions, an in primary care the biggest carbon emissions come from pharmaceuticals, followed by patient and staff travel. As trusted sources of information, educators, community members, and responsible businesspeople, primary care staff have the power to reduce their practice's environmental footprint whilst improving care quality. INHALERS AND NHS LONG TERM PLAN The NHS Long Term Plan, published earlier this month, makes two references to inhaler climate change impact: . Pg 120: The carbon footprint of health and social care has reduced by 19% since 2007, despite a 27% increase in activity.This leaves a significant challenge to deliver the Climate Change Act target of 34% by 2020 and 51% by 2025. Green Endoscopy aims to identify and foster sustainable practice within endoscopy nationally and internationally alongside the financial and social sustainability co-benefits. Our Network is looking to bring together patients, clinicians, researchers, educators, students and managers interested in Sustainable Endoscopy. If you're interested then join and get involved! REDUCING UNNECESSARY CANNULATION Description: Goal: To reduce unnecessary cannulation in the emergency department (ED). Background: before the project was carried out, inserting a cannula for a patient arriving in the emergency department was considered ‘routine’ care. Once a cannula is inserted the policy was for all cannula to be fitted with a Bionector, for infection control purposes.
