Hacibey 'Haci' Catalbasoglu was elected as an Independent in the November 7, 2017 general election to the Board of Alders for Ward 1 in New Haven, Connecticut. Haci is 19 years old and a junior at Yale University. He is the youngest Turkish American to U.S.-TURKEY RELATIONS The United States and Turkey have a long history of alliance, partnership and cooperation. Today, the relationship between the two continues to develop and grow in importance through mutual values, shared interests in security and stability in the region and beyond, fighting terrorism and extremism, and economic collaboration. It also was led by the treacherous Sultan Abdul Hamid. The 1915-1923 events of the Armenian-Turkish conflict are of a very different nature. TURKISH AMERICANS ELECTED TO POLITICAL OFFICE Hacibey Catalbasoglu. Hacibey 'Haci' Catalbasoglu was elected as an Independent in the November 7, 2017 general election to the Board of Alders for Ward 1 in New Haven, Connecticut. Haci is 19 years old and a junior at Yale University. He is the youngest Turkish American to REMEMBERING THE KOREAN WAR AND THE BONDS BETWEEN U.S. AND The alliance between the United States and Turkey has survived numerous conflicts since the Korean War. Although many of these efforts were spearheaded through NATO, the valiant effort of the Turkish Brigade in Korea set the tone for cooperation in times of war, from the first Gulf War to Bosnia, from Somalia to Afghanistan. THE TREATY OF LAUSANNE: TURKEY'S INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION The Treaty of Lausanne was signed on July 24, 1923. This international treaty recognized the boundaries of the newly established modern state of Turkey. MAY 19, 1919: THE BEGINNING OF THE TURKISH WAR OF NATIONAL LIBERATION May 19, 1919 marks the beginning of the Turkish War of National Liberation, a turning point in Turkey's history. On this day, a young Ottoman general, Mustafa Kemal, arrived in Samsun.
