About the Program. How it started Big Green Theater came out of a desire to welcome local kids into our theater and offer them a unique and interactive learning opportunity in the neighborhood. The Bushwick Starr was thrilled to collaborate with West Yorkshire Playhouse in presenting the world premiere of Animal Wisdom, a new music-theater piece by Obie Award-winning composer and performer Heather Christian.. Heather talks to dead people, gets freaked out and writes music. Animal Wisdom is a lo-fi, idiosyncratic, folk-blues Requiem written from theoretical or actual (you decide MISSION — THE BUSHWICK STARR Mission The Bushwick Starr is an Obie Award winning not-for-profit theater that presents an annual season of new performance works. We are an organization defined by both our artists and our community, and since 2007, we have grown into a thriving theatrical venue, a vital neighborhood arts center, and a destination for exciting and engagingperformance.

It also received a reading as part of The Bushwick Starr Reading Series. PET PROJECT GRANT
Jeremy O. Harris and The Bushwick Starr are partnering to provide financial relief to playwrights during this period of isolation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first round of the pet project grant is no longer accepting applications. For a list of other national emergency artist resources, click HERE. We are thrilled to share that 170 playwrights and writers for performance were WGNS — THE BUSHWICK STARR Mondays, 8-9:30p EST. The WGNS is a series of gatherings for clarity and direction in this our messy moment of distance and collapse. We come together so that we can learn from each other. This spring we learned together around a selection of texts, from bell VICHITRA — THE BUSHWICK STARR ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Shayok Misha Chowdhury is a writer, director, and many-tentacled maker based in Brooklyn.Currently on staff at Soho Rep as a Project Number One Artist-in-Residence, Misha is also a Resident Artist at HERE Arts Center, a member of the Devised Theater Working Group @ The Public, and an alumnus of the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab, Ars Nova’s Maker’s Lab, New York Theatre HUBBARD HALL RESIDENCY Hubbard Hall/Bushwick Starr Residencies will support the exploration and development of new and emerging work, with a focus on companies, artists and ensembles being produced at The Bushwick Starr in the coming Season and beyond. The WGNS is a series of gatherings for clarity and direction in this our messy moment of distance and collapse. We come together so that we can learn from each other. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC). Production design support provided by the Edith Lutyens and Norman Bel Geddes PET PROJECT GRANT FAQ ABOUT: The pet project grant is an emergency initiative initiated by artist Jeremy O. Harris, to provide financial assistance at this time of extreme uncertainty to those identifying as playwrights or writers for performance.. The grants are in the sum of $500 and are intended for playwrights facing dire financial emergencies due to COVID-19. There are 152 grants available at this time.
