PRACTICAL INFORMATION At the Brussels Tram Museum you can find a vast collection of vehicles that have spent their lifetime in the streets of the city, vehicles from a period that spans over a century. HISTORY – MUSÉE DU TRANSPORT URBAIN BRUXELLOIS In September 1976 the first two halls were gradually abandoned and converted into exhibition halls in order to establish a “Transport Museum”. The first exhibitions were held in June 1977. In 1982, STIB has entrusted the management of the museum to a.s.b.l. MTUB (Musée du Transport Urbain Bruxellois). The 1st of May, 1869 was a historic date for Brussels. On that day, the very first tram line was put into operation. MOTOR CAR 984 (1906-1935) Motor Car 984 (1906-1935) Tram 984 perfectly illustrates the “Belle Epoque” Brussels tram. The driver is protected by a glass windscreen, but the platforms remain unprotected from the elements. The two interior compartments are symmetrical, with 1st class distinguishable by its velvet cushions. HERITAGE TRAM AND BUS TRIPS every Saturday, Sunday and on public holidays: our historical trams will run between the Museum and Tervuren, four trips per dag, between 1.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. additionally, on Sundays and on public holidays, an oldtimer bus will shuttle between the Museum and Schuman, linking up to our trams between 1.40 p.m. and 5.40 p.m. MOTOR CAR 9079 (1960-1980) Series”9000” was the first type of tram allowing the driver to collect himself the fares, without a conductor aboard. Posted on 7 March 2019 Life at the museum. Our 2019 summer season runs from Wednesday April 3 to Sunday September 29. The central theme of this exceptional season is the 150th anniversary of the opening of the very first tram line in Brussels. Opening times are similar toASSOCIATION
Founded by STIB in 1982, our association is made up entirely of volunteers. They manage the museum, they maintain and drive its historical vehicles, and they make sure those vehicles are properly restored. Throughout the years we have also collected a large number of objects and documents related to public transport in Brussels. HERITAGE TRAM AND BUS TRIPS every Saturday, Sunday and on public holidays: our historical trams will run between the Museum and Tervuren, four trips per dag, between 1.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. additionally, on Sundays and on public holidays, an oldtimer bus will shuttle between the Museum and Schuman, linking up to our trams between 1.40 p.m. and 5.40 p.m.MÉDIATHÈQUE

MOTOR CAR 984 (1906-1935) Motor Car 984 (1906-1935) Tram 984 perfectly illustrates the “Belle Epoque” Brussels tram. The driver is protected by a glass windscreen, but the platforms remain unprotected from the elements. Today, the museum is open. from 1 pm to 6 pm. MOTOR CAR 7065 (1956-2008) Motor Car 7065 (1956-2008) After World War II, Brussels’ rolling stock was in serious need of rejuvenation. Pre-war trams were no match for the rise in car traffic. A first batch of so-called “PCC” cars was ordered from Belgium’s national builders. The “PCC” concept was based on studies made by various American tram (streetcar MOTOR CAR 9079 (1960-1980) Series”9000” was the first type of tram allowing the driver to collect himself the fares, without a conductor aboard. This style of fares perception started on the buses in 1956, it was extended to trams in 1961, first of all on Sundays and weekday evenings on less trafficked lines. The last conductors disappeared in May 1978. BUS 8399 (1991-2010) Bus 8399 (1991-2010) The Van Hool “A500” were the first three-door, fully low-floor buses (with passenger access at 500 millemetres from the ground) that STIB/MIVB received in the early 1990s. More than 600 vehicles of this type were built. The idea behind these buses was to give passengers easy access through all threedoors, a concept

At the Brussels Tram Museum you can find a vast collection of vehicles that have spent their lifetime in the streets of the city, vehicles from a COLLECTION – MUSÉE DU TRANSPORT URBAIN BRUXELLOIS Collection. The Brussels Urban Transport Museum (MTUB) was founded in 1982 by members of the Société des Transports Intercommunaux Bruxellois (STIB) and a few amateurs with a passion for public transport. The museum is remarkable in more ways than one. Firstly, there’s the building that houses it. HISTORY – MUSÉE DU TRANSPORT URBAIN BRUXELLOIS In September 1976 the first two halls were gradually abandoned and converted into exhibition halls in order to establish a “Transport Museum”. The first exhibitions were held in June 1977. In 1982, STIB has entrusted the management of the museum to a.s.b.l. MTUB (Musée du Transport Urbain Bruxellois). The first members were mostly staff 150 – MUSÉE DU TRANSPORT URBAIN BRUXELLOIS Join us for the 150 th anniversary of the Brussels tram network!. The 1st of May, 1869 was a historic date for Brussels. On that day, the very first tram line was put into operation. This horse tram line ran from the Bois de la Cambre to Porte de Namur through avenue Louise.
