Len Harris had the sea in his blood and had been sailing, fishing and surfing from a young age. Until a week before he passed away he was still swimming a mile a day in under 20 minutes every day. TYNEMOUTH RNLI LIFEBOAT STATION The incident began at around 7am on Sunday. A FISHING vessel running aground on the notorious Black Midden rocks led to Tynemouth RNLI inshore and all weather lifeboats being launched early on Friday morning (7th Feb). The skipper. A POLICE incident prompted the launch of Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat at on Tuesday morning. TYNEMOUTH RNLI LIFEBOATS Introduced in 1963 the D class has served as the workhorse of the RNLI Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) fleet. It has a single 50hp outboard engine and can be righted manually by the crew following a capsize. Significantly smaller in comparison to the rest of the inshore fleet, the D-class is also one of the few RNLI types not to feature a rigid hull.
