In 2002, the international Mouse Genome Sequencing Consortium announced their publication of a high-quality draft sequence of the mouse genome. Scientists were able, for the first time, to compare and contrast the human genome sequences with those of another mammal. GENOME: UNLOCKING LIFE'S CODE At a 1996 summit in Bermuda, leaders of the Human Genome Project agreed that all human genomic sequence information generated by centers funded for large-scale human sequencing should be made freely available and in the public domain within 24 hours after generation. UNLOCKING LIFE'S CODE On April 10, 1941, Henrietta Pleasant married David “Day” Lacks. A biopsy of Henrietta Lack's tumor was taken and sent to the lab of Dr. George Gey resulting in the creation of the HeLa cell line. Sadly, Henrietta would never know the impact she would have on our world as she died shortly after, on October 4, 1951. She was 31 years old.1951.
