BLIND SOCCER
Blind soccer, also known as 5-a-side soccer or football 5-a-side, is an adaptation of soccer for athletes with a visual impairment. The sport has been governed by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) since 1996 and is played with modified FIFA rules.. Join the United States Association of Blind Athletes for National Blind Sports Week (Sept. 28-Oct. 3), a six-day virtual experience focused on participation and awareness of sports and opportunities available to athletes who are blind and visually impaired. B1: No light perception in either eye up to light perception, and an inability to recognize the shape of a hand at any distance or in any direction. Larry Lee is considered one of the most successful Paralympic coaches of all time. He coached the first two U.S. judo athletes to ever win gold medals at an Olympic or Paralympic Games. USABA was founded by Dr. Charles Buell in 1976 with the purpose of improving the lives of people who are blind and visually impaired. That year, 27 young men and women were selected to represent the United States in the first Olympiad for the Disabled in Toronto,Canada.
TRACK & FIELD AND DISTANCE RUNNING Track & Field disciplines and distance running are easily adaptable for athletes who are blind and visually impaired. The rules of Paralympic Track & Field and distance running are almost identical to those of USA Track & Field which makes integration into able-bodiedevents very easy.

Winford Haynes was a 6-time, 4-sport Paralympian, capturing 6 medals in track & field and one in both wrestling and goalball. He won 2 gold and 1 silver medal in the 100m between the 1976 Games and the 1984 Games where he set a Paralympic record of 11.78 seconds. At those same 1984 Games he won gold as a member of the U.S. men’s goalball team and a silver medal in wrestling. He also competed in judo at the 1988 & 1992 Games. Winford was inducted into the USABA Hall of Fame in2010.

I was the head coach for The blind USABA down hill ski team from 1988 till 1992! I took the position when Dick Kapp retired.
