Throughout 2020, our volunteers and staff have done an incredible job, repurposing and redesigning our projects and programmes, and in many areas taking part in the front-line response to Covid-19. This wouldn’t be possible without the wonderful support we receive from players of People’s Postcode Lottery. GETTING TOGETHER MATTERS DURING COVID-19 ‘TOUR DE THANKS’ Our very own CEO Paul Reddish will be undertaking a gruelling 1000km cycle from Edinburgh to London via Wales to say a heartfelt thanks to the thousands of people across the UK who have made a difference in their communities in the last 12 RSVP DRIVING SCHEMES RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme) runs many driving schemes across the UK which provide free or low-cost door-to-door service for older or more vulnerable people. VOLUNTEERS SUPPORTING FAMILIES Volunteers Supporting Families recruits, trains and matches volunteers to mentor and support families with children at risk of neglect or harm. This could be that the child/children is/are on child protection, or that there are complex needs in the family such as; alcohol or substance misuse, mental or emotional ill health ordomestic violence.
‘THE TRUE MEASURE OF ANY SOCIETY CAN BE FOUND IN HOW IT At Volunteering Matters we were saddened to learn this morning that one million people with care needs in the UK receive no formal or informal support (a rise of 10% over the past year). The Kings Fund and Nuffield Trust report revealed that cuts to local government budgets have led to a 25% fall (in the four years to 2014) in the number of over-65s receiving support from their council. The Newcastle Passport Scheme will enable the formation of a network of volunteers who are fully recruited, trained, supported and ready to respond quickly and appropriately to the needs of the local community. Taking learnings from the impact of COVID-19, this scheme will trial how a volunteer passport could help organisations and volunteers 10 TIPS TO RECOGNISE YOUR VOLUNTEERS Say thank you. This is the easiest and probably most effective way to recognise your volunteers. And it’s free! Say thanks to your volunteers often and be sincere and specific when you do it. WASSUP - WOMEN AGAINST SEXUAL EXPLOITATION AND VIOLENCE WASSUP is a project run by local young women in Ipswich. They focus on raising awareness of sexual exploitation, domestic abuse, honour based violence and gang grooming. They also prioritise lobbying for changes to social policy and practice on these issues promoting youngpeople’s voice.

September 17, 2019. Seventy supporters raised £5,000 for Grandmentors, an inter-generational award-winning project of Volunteering Matters. The money will help to provide weekly support for young care leavers over a 6-12 month period, ensuring greater well-being, autonomy and career prospects. VOLUNTEERING MATTERS FOR SOCIAL PRESCRIBING Volunteering Matters is committed to evolving health and wellbeing services that operate systematically and collaboratively. Greater investment in social prescribing will help build essential system architecture: there will be 1,000 new paid linkworkers in England’s NHS by 2021, and a new National Academy for Social Prescribing iscoming soon.
VOLUNTEERS SUPPORTING FAMILIES Volunteers Supporting Families recruits, trains and matches volunteers to mentor and support families with children at risk of neglect or harm. This could be that the child/children is/are on child protection, or that there are complex needs in the family such as; alcohol or substance misuse, mental or emotional ill health ordomestic violence.

This could be after school, in the evening or at weekendsFOR OUR COMMUNITY
