Summer 2021. With spring in the air, the VSO is finalizing plans to bring strings, brass, and woodwind quartets and quintets around Vermont during the balmy days of July. We loved visiting all 14 counties last summer and are coming back with free outdoor musical performances to fit all tastes and audiences in a series of statewidetours: Homes

Eighty-five years ago, a group of music enthusiasts meeting in Woodstock convinced each other that they could create a statewide orchestra. At their center was a young conductor named Alan Carter, fresh from musicalstudies abroad.

VSO RECEIVES NEA FUNDING VSO Receives NEA Funding. Burlington, VT— The Vermont Symphony Orchestra has been approved for a $15,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to support general operating costs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding will help with the VSO return to live performances and education programs across the state. The VermontSymphony Orchestra
EDUCATION – VERMONT SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Below is a representation of our typical education offerings. Education and community collaboration have always been an important part of the VSO’s statewide mission. In the 2018/2019 season, SymphonyKids reached 18,700 students through 216 presentations, serving 153 schools in 120 towns.ANNUAL REPORT

If you are interested in enhancing your event with a VSO ensemble, please submit an inquiry using the online form below. Our Ensemble Coordinator will be in touch with you as soon as possible with additional details. MAKING MUSIC TOGETHER Making Music Together. Over the winter, five Vermont Symphony Orchestra musicians took on new young music students from Brattleboro, Ferrisburgh, Colchester, Bolton, and Richmond via weekly Zoom lessons, supported by funds from the Tarrant Foundation. In demand worldwide as a conductor and a soloist, Laredo, who has held the position of Music Director of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra since 2000, and has completed his second season as Principal Conductor of the Westchester Philharmonic. In 2009, Mr. Laredo and his wife were named the Artistic Directors of the Linton Chamber Music Series in SUNDAY MATINEE SERIES FEATURING JOSEPH KALICHSTEIN A legendary piano soloist visits Vermont for our March concert: Joseph Kalichstein, performing Beethoven’s second piano concerto. The program begins with a musical love note that Mahler wrote for his wife, Alma. Following the piano concerto, the program closes with the last symphony Mozart ever wrote, Symphony No. 41, “Jupiter.”. MASTERWORKS FEATURING RAN DANK The recipient of numerous honors, Ran Dank won a coveted place on the Young Concert Artists roster in 2009 and subsequently made his New York recital debut sponsored by YCA and the Jerome L.Greene Foundation at Merkin Hall December 14, 2009. He was a laureate of the Cleveland International Competition, the Naumburg Piano Competition and the VERMONT SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA About the VSO. Education and community collaboration have always been an important part of the VSO’s statewide mission. In the 2018/2019 season, SymphonyKids reached 18,700 students through 216 presentations, serving 153 schools in 120 towns.PHILANTHROPY

Eighty-five years ago, a group of music enthusiasts meeting in Woodstock convinced each other that they could create a statewide orchestra. EDUCATION – VERMONT SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Musical Petting Zoo. In addition to our traveling ensembles, we have a program called the Musical Petting Zoo. The “Zookeeper,” Toby Aronson, brings a variety of orchestral instruments into the schools for a hands-on introduction to the VSO.
