NOTICES - WEST HIGHLAND WAY The West Highland Way between Inversnaid and Crianlarich sustained some storm damage at the end of Summer 2019. The section has remained open, however extra care should be taken especially in poor weather conditions. Please follow the diversion signs that maybe in place on this section due to any repair work taking place. GLAMPING PODS & CAMPSITE 4 bed mega lodge - from £70pn. The Glamping Pods & Campsite are situated adjacent to the Blackwater Hostel and are ideally positioned with many pods overlooking the River Leven. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Frequently asked questions. Can I cycle the West Highland Way? You can but it is worth noting that the West Highland Way was designed as a long distance walking route and consequently cyclists will come across terrain, underpasses and gates which were designed specifically for walkers. For example, when the West Highland Way passes under the DRYMEN TO ROWARDENNAN Drymen to Rowardennan. On leaving Drymen, you rejoin the West Highland Way as it veers away from the A811 and towards Conic Hill. The view from Conic Hill is world class, and your first taste of the epic landscapes you will experience on the West Highland Way. INVERARNAN TO TYNDRUM The Way bypasses Crianlarich to the west, but a spur path leads into the village, the halfway point on the route. The terrain is challenging particularly north of Inversnaid but the sense of wildness and soaring mountains are worth the extra care and attention needed. INVERARNAN TO TYNDRUM Terrain. The path and tracks are mainly well-surfaced where much of the route consists of an old military road with moderate hills. The Way bypasses Crianlarich to the west, but a spur path leads into the village, the halfway point on the route. INVERORAN TO KINGSHOUSE Terrain. The track along the old Parliamentary Road is good but Rannoch Moor is very exposed and can be tricky in bad weather. There is no shelter on this section of the Way until reaching the Ski Centre, but in good weather this is a rewarding part of the trail with superb scenery throughout. This is a wild and remote section of the West Highland Way and one of the last great wildernesses of Europe. DRYMEN TO ROWARDENNAN Drymen to Rowardennan. On leaving Drymen, you rejoin the West Highland Way as it veers away from the A811 and towards Conic Hill. The view from Conic Hill is world class, and your first taste of the epic landscapes you will experience on the West Highland Way. You can but it is worth noting that the West Highland Way was designed as a long distance walking route and consequently cyclists will come across terrain, underpasses and gates which were designed specifically for walkers. For example, when the West Highland Way passes under the ROWARDENNAN TO INVERARNAN This stretch begins on forestry track following the eastern shore of Loch Lomond and becomes increasingly rougher with occasional sections of rocky path with crags and boulders. Beyond Inversnaid the route is challenging underfoot and walkers should take care to avoid twisting an ankle or tripping. Height range: 7 – 105 m. Height at start: 10m.
INVERARNAN TO TYNDRUM The Way bypasses Crianlarich to the west, but a spur path leads into the village, the halfway point on the route. The following section to Tyndrum is a straightforward path, offering spectacular mountain scenery. Height range: 17 – 336 m. Height at start: 27 m. Height atfinish: 237 m.

GETTING TO & FROM THE ROUTE Getting to & from the route. The West Highland Way is traditionally walked from south to north (Milngavie to Fort William) but however you plan to tackle the route; there are plenty of options to get to both towns. NOTICES - WEST HIGHLAND WAY The West Highland Way between Inversnaid and Crianlarich sustained some storm damage at the end of Summer 2019. The section has remained open, however extra care should be taken especially in poor weather conditions. Please follow the diversion signs that maybe in place on this section due to any repair work taking place. STAYING SAFE & ENJOYING THE OUTDOORS RESPONSIBLY The British Mountaineering Council – protects the freedoms and promotes the interests of climbers, hillwalkers and mountaineers. We want everyone to enjoy the West Highland Way in a safe and responsible manner. Be aware that the owners of the land you are crossing might be engaged in deer management and other land management activities and ESSENTIAL KIT & USEFUL ITEMS Maps – A map of the West Highland Way is a must, either separate or part of the many excellent guide books available. A number of the maps available display the route in multiple images on a single sheet. Waste bags – Many of the stopping points along the way have toilets and bins, but you must be prepared to bag up any rubbish and carry it with you until you find an appropriate bin or INVERORAN TO KINGSHOUSE Inveroran to Kingshouse. From Forest Lodge, the path slowly rises up onto the edges of Rannoch Moor. This is a wild and remote section of the West Highland Way and one of the last great wildernesses of Europe.
