NATURE RESERVES
Nature Reserve Access Update. The majority of our nature reserves remain open with free access and we are delighted that support from our members enables us to offer this. To ensure nature is still there for us in the future as well as right now please keep dogs on leads, follow our Reserve Access Guidelines and the Countryside Code and weSUMMER LEYS

FOR ANY MEDIA ENQUIRIES PLEASE CONTACT OUR COMMUNICATIONS TEAM: communicationsteam@wildlifebcn.org or 01954 713500 and ask for comms team.LILBOURNE MEADOWS
About the reserve. This new nature reserve is the result of a partnership between the Wildlife Trust BCN and Prologis. Originally designed as an ecological mitigation zone, which will also help screen Lilbourne village from the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT) expansion, Lilbourne Meadows was an opportunity to create a landscape that enhances the biodiversity of the areaGAMSEY WOOD
Gamsey Wood, dominated by ash and field maple trees, is situated where the clay uplands adjoin the Fenland Basin. Along with nearby woods - Lady's Wood and Raveley Wood - Gamsey Wood is believed to be a fragment of the ancient forest that covered much of this area in Saxon times. Gamsey Wood is renowned for its displays of spring flowersGAMLINGAY WOOD
Gamlingay Wood is owned and managed as a nature reserve by The Wildlife Trust BCN. The reserve is very popular with visitors so balancing wildlife conservation with public access is very important to the Trust. There are no public rights of way within the woodland, however the Trust does allow permissive access for the public tovisit.
SHORT WOOD AND SOUTHWICK WOOD Short Wood is a fragment of the Rockingham Forest, a medieval hunting forest. It is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest which includes areas of managed hazel coppice, many large oak, ash and field maple trees and small areas of dense blackthorn scrub. Occasionally, nightingales can be heard here.OLD SULEHAY
Old Sulehay Forest is a fragment of the ancient Rockingham Forest, a royal hunting forest that extended from Wansford to Kettering. Other areas of the reserve are associated with quarrying. Stonepit Close was exploited for its limestone, while areas of Ring Haw were quarried for limestone, ironstone and silica clay; remains of the quarryUPWOOD MEADOWS
Designated a National Nature Reserve for its floristic diversity, Upwood is awash with life. The greatest display is in Bentley meadow where medieval ridge-and-furrow and the many ant hills provide differing microhabitats for plants and invertebrates. Here plants including cowslip, green-winged REVISION TO MEMORANDUM AND ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION 2 accepted by the current government, and enshrined in the recent White Paper, The Natural Choice – securing the future of nature.
