FINDING A PUBLISHER
The publishing world is changing constantly, and writers are wise to take the time to choose carefully which publishers to approach. If you are looking for a contract with a traditional publisher, beware of advertisements and solicitations offering to publish your book for afee.

Many writers believe they must have a literary agent in order to get published, but this is not always the case. There are approximately thirty agents in Canada and, because there are so few, it can be difficult to find an agent who will represent you. Clearly, the sweet spot for everyone is a royalty rate for ebooks between 25% and 50%. Getting Published. Getting your manuscript published is time-consuming and can often be a frustrating experience. Finding a publisher who will consider your book idea or look at your manuscript is the first step to becoming a published author. For more information, see Finding a Publisher. If you are asked to submit a manuscript, it is RESOURCES | THE WRITERS' UNION OF CANADA The Writers’ Union of Canada is pleased to offer a range of resources related to publishing at no charge to both members and non-members, in the Guide To Getting Published section of our website. Here you will find useful information on literary agents, contracts, and many other topics. COPYRIGHT | THE WRITERS' UNION OF CANADA The IAF is an umbrella organization of creator groups, representing over 700,000 professional writers across the globe. Through its work with the IAF, TWUC has presented on Canadian copyright issues at the European Parliament in Brussels, the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, and at many other meetings around the world. CONTRACTS | THE WRITERS' UNION OF CANADA If a publisher wants to publish your manuscript, you will be offered a contract. Do not let any publisher begin editorial revisions or production work until you have signed a mutually satisfactory contract. Remember, contracts are negotiable – the clauses can, and generally should, be changed.TWUC'S ROYALTY MATH
Clearly, the sweet spot for everyone is a royalty rate for ebooks between 25% and 50%. The industry standard, TWUC contends, is far too low and does not in any way reflect a fair partnership between authors and publishers on ebooks. Knowledge is power, dear authors. David Homel. David Homel was born and raised in Chicago in 1952 of East European stock. He left at the end of the tumultuous 1960s and lived in Europe and Toronto before moving to Montreal around 1980. He was educated in three countries and worked at a variety of industrial jobs before beginning to write fiction in the mid-1980s.MEMBER PROFILE
