Front-end RSS Feeds (2020 Edition) Back in 2011, Paul Irish posted his personal list of frontend RSS feeds for front-end web developers. It was a great list, but after some time it needed some refreshing. In 2014 I published my own list of categorized feeds for front-enddevelopers.
THE MOST INTERESTING DEVELOPER TOOLS FOR 2021 CURRENT PAGE LINK STYLES One of the most common things you’ll see on any website is a navigation bar that has a different set of CSS styles applied to the link that represents the current page the user is on. (Maybe I’ll actually get around to doing this on my own site!) THE WEIRD WORLD OF INFINITY IN JAVASCRIPT Good question! First, Math.max() with no arguments returns negative Infinity and Math.min() with no arguments returns positive Infinity. So you’d have to use Math.min() if comparing to the two you mentioned.. And my guess is that Number.POSITIVE_INFINITY is not equal to Number.MAX_VALUE because they’re different properties of the Number object, so technically they’re DON'T FORGET ABOUT "TRANSITION: ALL" This uses the all keyword to identify that we want all properties to transition. In fact, the keyword value “all” is the initial value for the transition-property property, so you could actually leave it out, like this: .element { width: 400px; height: 400px; transition: 1sIMAGE TINT WITH CSS
The other day Paul Irish posted an article that collected together responses to a question that he and Yehuda Katz asked their Twitter followers.. One of the wish list items a few people mentioned was “CSS blend modes” with a use case of tinting an image on hover (or tinting it statically, then removing the tint on hover or by someother interaction).
MAKE A TEXTAREA AUTO RESIZE TO FIT CONTENTS So to get the height of the textarea, I just need to do the following: Grab the content loaded into the textarea. Create an invisible clone div. Give the clone the same width and typographical properties as the textarea. Place the content into the clone. Get the height of theclone.
UNDERSTANDING EM UNITS IN CSS The spec gives us a very simple definition for the em unit: Equal to the computed value of the ‘font-size’ property of the element on which it is used. In other words, if you have the following CSS: .element { font-size: 20px; } Then this means 1em defined on thatelement, or

This is a quick tip to demonstrate a way to work around the problem of child elements in your HTML inheriting the “alpha” settings oftheir parent.

TRIGGERING CSS3 TRANSITIONS WITH JAVASCRIPT At the beginning of this month I wrote a post accompanied by five demo pages that showed that CSS3 transitions could be triggered with a number of different events/states in CSS. You can animate checkboxes and radio buttons when they become “checked” — although you’re limited with what you can do with those, since you can’t really change their native styling. THE "INHERIT" VALUE FOR CSS PROPERTIES If you want, however, you can force a property in a child element to inherit the value for that property from its parent by using the inherit value. Here’s an example of how you might do this: div { border: solid 2px hotpink; } p { border: inherit; } So, if for some strange reason, you wanted all of your paragraphs to inherit the hotpink
USING MIN/MAX WIDTH AND HEIGHT IN CSS Even if you're just getting started with CSS, you've likely used the height and width properties quite a bit already. But you've probably noticed that those properties can put unnecessary constraints on your page elements. So you might benefit from knowing and using related properties that use the "min" and "max" prefixes.
