THE HEROES OF GUNDAGAI The township of Gundagai was established close to the Murrumbidgee River in New South Wales. It was built on Wiradjuri Country. Murrumbidgee River was known to flood in that spot, but despite being warned by local Wiradjuri, the new arrivals built their town on low-lying ground. By 1852, 250 settler-colonisers lived in thetownship.
WHITE AUSTRALIA STILL HAS A BLACK HISTORY White Australia has a black history. A history filled with all sorts of atrocities, not as the exception but as the norm. CLOSING THE GAP REFRESH The process of the supposed inclusion of the consultations in the Closing the Gap Refresh – despite the rhetoric of COAG – has been ‘more of the same old same old’. This damaging process has only further entrenched the failed way that governments work with Indigenous peoples and their communities. This is not good enough. WHY I NO LONGER SUPPORT #CHANGETHEDATE This is what Australia does with its symbolic gestures. It uses them to pretend that no further changes are required. And that is why I cannot in good conscience support #changethedate anymore. If public pressure for changing the date grows to sufficient level I don’t doubt that the major parties would do a 180 to support it.
