WHERE ARE YOU?
God called to Adam, “Where are you?” I wonder if we need to re-hear that question from God. I think we are so familiar with the Adam and Eve stories and so sure that they are about disobedience, original sin, failure, and being bad that we can’t hear anything new or different. But what if SERMON – INTERRUPTING THE SILENCE I am talking about those memories, thoughts, feelings, or fears that never go away. No matter how hard you try you can’t wish, deny, or ignore them away. They are the things that give you no rest and won’t let you go. They keep stirring up your insides. They hound you through the day and haunt you through the night.MARK 4:26-34

The theme of those words – all shall be well – is the thread that runs through today’s psalm. I wonder how many times you’ve said orheard
WHOLEHEARTED LIFE
Wholehearted Life – A Sermon On John 15:1-8. Think about what you do in your daily life that just leaves you exhausted. I am talking about the things that leave you emotionally drained and physically worn out. These are not the kind of things for which sleeping late, taking a day off, or going on vacation are the antidote. THE MUSIC HASN’T ENDED, THE KEY HAS CHANGED The music of Gene’s life did not end at his death. Though we might be able to name the day and maybe even the hour of Gene’s death, he never knew that moment. He simply moved from this life to a new life. The music hasn’t ended, the key has changed. And that means we “WHY DO YOU STAND LOOKING UP TO HEAVEN?” The collect and readings for the Feast of the Ascension may be found here. The following sermon is based on Acts 1:1-11 and Luke 24:44-53. LIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE Sober drunkenness. That’s a new thought. In my Baptist tradition, we get drunk on the realization of “being saved,” but then we “swear off the hard stuff” until the next revival meeting or other special time of awareness of the inebriating Spirit. THE FIRST SUNDAY OF COVID-19 – A REFLECTION ON EXODUS 17:1-7 It was The Third Sunday in Lent. We had planned to celebrate the Holy Eucharist beginning with the penitential order. It ended up being a different kind of Sunday; not your usual Third Sunday in Lent. We omitted the penitential order and began the liturgy with a prayer concerning COVID-19. DO YOU HAVE A SECRET? – A SERMON ON LUKE 2:22-40 Many year ago, at the suggestion of my priest, I did some work with a counselor. During one of our meetings the conversation lulled and he asked me a question. “Mike, do you have a secret?” Tears filled my eyes. I had butterflies in my stomach. And my heart was pounding. I nodded, whispered yes, and waited for what I knew would be his next question. Continue reading Do You Have A Secret? – A Sermon On Luke 2:22-40Michael K. Marsh

CONSENTING TO LIFE – A SERMON ON MATTHEW 3:13-17 What do you do when your prayer is not answered, the budget doesn’t work out, expectations are not met? What do you do when your plan doesn’t come together, a relationship ends, or life is interrupted? What do you do when it’s a hard day and you just want to say no andrun away?
Today’s gospel sets before us two choices. We can either resist, forbid, and try to prevent what is coming to us, which is what John wants to do. Or we can permit it and “let it be,” which is what Jesus tells John to do. Continue reading Consenting To Life – A Sermon On Matthew 3:13-17Michael K. Marsh
