PATHWAYS THROUGH PARTICIPATION Pathways through Participation. Pathways through Participation was a two and a half year (April 2009 – November 2011) qualitative research project, which aimed to improve our understanding of how and why people participate, how their involvement changes over time, and what pathways, if any, exist between different activities.CO-PRODUCTION
THE PANDEMIC HAS SHOWN US THAT PARENTS HAVE A BIGGER ROLE The pandemic has shown us that parents have a bigger role to play in education. Since March 2020, most parents have had no choice but to become more involved than ever before in their child’s learning. Schools were ordered to close in an effort to slow the spread of Covid-19. WATCH THE CLIMATE ASSEMBLY UK DOCUMENTARY ON BBC IPLAYER We are excited to announce that The People vs Climate Change a brand new documentary about Climate Assembly UK is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer. The hour-long film features a behind the scenes look at the assembly and follows seven assembly members – Sue, Marc, Charley, Amy, Folajimi, Richard and Amanda – as they navigate the climate change choices we face. NINE PRINCIPLES OF EFFECTIVE DELIBERATIVE PUBLIC Involve has nine principles of effective deliberative engagement: The process makes a difference The process is transparent The process has integrity The process is tailored to circumstances The process involves the right number and types of people The process treats participants with respect The process gives priority to participants’ discussions The process is reviewed and HOW CAN THE NHS IN SCOTLAND MEANINGFULLY ENGAGE THE PUBLIC NHS Boards across Scotland (in common with the situation across the UK) are currently witnessing a massive change in the demographics of their constituencies, rapid advances in medical technology and increased budgetary constraints. At the same time, however, they are being asked to undertake a ‘transformational’ approach to health and social care provision in their areas PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT TRAINING CITIZENS' ASSEMBLY TRACKER Citizens' Assembly Tracker. We're keeping track of where citizens' assemblies and juries are taking place around the UK and on what topics. For inclusion on the list, an assembly or jury must: Have taken place / be taking place in the UK; Have publically accessible information about it online. If it is not done well, it can damage the reputation not only of the specific policy initiative but of the organisations developing the policy. DIGITAL TOOLS FOR PARTICIPATION: WHERE TO START? With social distancing measures likely to be around for some time and with challenging questions and decisions in front of us, there has never been a greater need for high-quality digital engagement. The web is filled with tools to enable participation, collaboration and discussion, but it can be difficult to know where to start. This blog post aims to give you a few pointers REVIEW OF THE PROCESS Participation is an emerging field, so evaluation and review of practice is very important. Indeed, formal evaluation is emerging as an integral part of good public participation management for on-going projects. Planning a review process in advance is also important to ensure that the learning is gathered from the work as it happens. This enables those involved (and others) WORLD CAFE | INVOLVE.ORG.UK The World Cafe is a method which makes use of an informal cafe setting for participants to explore an issue by discussing it in small table groups. Discussion is held in multiple rounds of 20-30 minutes, with the cafe ambiance intended to allow for more relaxed and open conversations to take place.COMMUNITY APPRAISAL
Community Appraisals are surveys of local need and opinion about issues such as local housing, schooling, training, employment, culture, health, social welfare and community facilities. Description Community Appraisal is a method that includes gauging the viewpoints of members of a community on particular issues. Appraisals may be conducted to form a plan of action to resolve ONLINE DISCUSSION GROUPS Online discussion groups are situated on websites, and support users to enter into conversation with one or more people by typing in messages. Description Online discussion groups can take place either via a bulletin board/forum system, or a live chat system. The main difference between the two is that the former is not dependent on all contributors taking part at the sameDELPHI SURVEY
A Delphi Survey is a series of questionnaires that allow experts to develop ideas about potential future developments around an issue. The questionnaires are developed throughout the process in relation to the responses given by participants. Description Delphi Surveys are used to gather collective forecasts through questionnaires about likely or possible developments in KEEPING UP WITH THE CITIZENS' ASSEMBLIES Keeping up with the citizens' assemblies.
