ACHILLBEG - IRISH LIGHTS Achillbeg Lighthouse was inaugurated by Ernest Benson, Chairman of the Commissioners of Irish Lights, at sunset on the same day. Originally the station was monitored via a UHF radio link to the Attendant's home. In 1991 Achillbeg was linked to the Remote Control and Monitoring System based at VALENTIA DIRECTIONAL LIGHT On 26 February 2011 a new directional light was established in the same position as the old front lead with a character of Dir Oc. W R G 4s (3.0 + 1.0) and sectored as follows: Green 136° -140° (4° ), White 140° -142° (2° ), Red 142° -146° (4° ). The light is shown 24 hours a day. The night time range remains the same as the previous CASHLA BAY - IRISHLIGHTS.IE The light at Cashla Bay was first established on 1 March 1984. The present apparatus was installed on 18 July 2005 when daylight exhibition of the light was introduced. The character of the light is Dir. Isophase White Red Green 5 Seconds. The nominal day range of the light is White 3 Nautical Miles, Red and Green 2 Nautical Miles. TORY ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE An encrypted Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) station at Tory Island, provided by Scorpio Navigation Services on a commercial, user pays basis, commenced on 4 June 1993. This service terminated on 28 February 1998. In June 1998 the Commissioners of Irish lights commenced their own unencrypted DGPS service on a trial basis.ILV GRANUAILE
ILV Granuaile An advanced multifunctional vessel. Our aids to navigation vessel, ILV Granuaile, delivered in January 2000, was one of the most advanced vessels of its type in the world at the time. It was a prototype for new builds for Trinity House (England & Wales), the Northern Lighthouse Board (Scotland) and the Middle East Navigation Aids Service (MENAS). FASTNET - IRISH LIGHTS Fastnet is the tallest and widest rock lighthouse tower in Ireland and Great Britain and was a monumental achievement when completed in 1904. Each of the granite stones of the tower is dovetailed into those around it, bonding the structure into a virtual monolith. The lighthouse was constructed by the Commissioners' own workforce. The lighthouse on Straw Island is a harbour light built on a small sandy island at the eastern entrance to Killeany Bay. It was the result of a long correspondence battle of over twenty years to have a local light built to replace the discontinued light near Oghil on Inishmore. Inishmore was established in 1818 but unfortunately it was MAIDENS - IRISH LIGHTS On 12th October 1977 the installation of an electric light at Maidens Lighthouse was completed and the station was converted to automatic operation. At this time the character of the auxiliary light was changed to one red flash every 5 seconds. Sheep's Head Lighthouse, which marks the southern tip of Bantry Bay, was built in 1968 as a consequence of the development of the oil terminal at Whiddy Island. The geographical position of the lighthouse is Latitude 51º 32.5' North, Longitude 9º 50.8' West. The design of the lighthouse is similar to that on Achillbeg, built in 1965.BLACK ROCK (MAYO)

ORGANISATION & BOARD The Commissioners of Irish Lights is vested under Section 634 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1894 with the responsibility for superintendence and management of all lighthouses and other aids to navigation for Ireland (North and South) and the adjacent seas and islands. The Merchant Shipping Act 1995 Section 195 (1) empowers us with the same INISHEER - IRISH LIGHTS AIS: A sea light on the southernmost extremity of the chain of Aran Islands and guides into the southern entrance of Galway Bay. Originally a light was established on Inishmore near Dun Oghil at a height of 400 feet along side the Signal Tower.COPPER POINT
