COMPRESSION STOCKINGS FOR VARICOSE VEINS AND VENOUS Compression stockings squeeze legs to compress veins and keep blood moving in the right direction. The squeeze is generally tighter at the ankle and gradually lessens farther up the leg. The strength of compression stockings is measured in millimeters of mercury or mmHg. This is represented in a range (i.e. 20-30mmHg) from lowestcompression to
HOW CAN YOU CLOSE DOWN VEINS? DON’T YOU NEED THEM?! Veins work by one-way valves. These valves allow blood up and out but then close to prevent it from retuning backwards through the vein. In varicose veins these valves have stopped functioning. The deep system is the major carrier of the blood flow back to the heart. All deep veins are underneath the muscles running close the bones. VENASEAL AND CLARIVEIN VenaSeal and ClariVein are emerging as the new non-thermal and non-tumescent techniques, though they go about it in different ways. WHAT ARE THE RESTRICTIONS AFTER VARICOSE VEIN TREATMENT Ambulatory Phlebectomy. After Ambulatory Phlebectomy (removal of bulging veins) the same restrictions are in place. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for one week. Along the course of the bulging vein, small incisions will be made. These incisions need to be kept clean and dry for 2 days. WILL MY SCLEROTHERAPY PROCEDURE BE PAINFUL? Sclerotherapy uses ultrasound guidance to inject a medication into veins, causing scarring to occur and closing the vein permanently. This procedure is routinely used at IVC and patients want to know how this procedure compares to EndoVenous Thermal Ablation (EVTA) as far as pain caused during the procedure and recovery time after theprocedure.
VARICOSE VEIN DISEASE AND TREATMENTS Symptoms include itching, heaviness, swelling, and aching in the legs or pelvis. Varicose veins can become a serious medical condition; left untreated, they may cause skin pigment changes, bleeding, skin ulcerations/sores, and blood clots. Ambulatory phlebectomy removes diseased veins through tiny incisions in the leg. Leg discomfort: If you experience aching, heaviness, throbbing, burning, itching, cramping, or numbness in your legs, then there is a good chance you have venous insufficiency. In many cases, these symptoms are exacerbated by long periods of standing or sitting. PRE-OPERATIVE MEDICATION FOR VEIN TREATMENT The generic name for Valium is Diazepam. Valium is specifically used in our clinic to help reduce the anxiety a patient may have prior to/during treatment. Valium has a half-life of 30-60 hours, though most patients feel the medication wearing off after 6-8 hours as it is prescribed as a small single dose. We prescribe valium to be takenorally

The starting and ending point of all the veins are evaluated, and the flow checked for reflux. Reflux in the veins is when blood is going in the wrong direction (towards the feet) when it should be flowing up CHRONIC VENOUS INSUFFICIENCY Chronic Venous Insufficiency is a condition that develops over several years, due to faulty valves in the veins.
