When you choose the bluestone treads you can either make each tread one entire piece of bluestone or it can be made up of a few pieces. If you choose the latter, they are grouted with concrete/mortar. It is always a possibility that mortar will crack. Another cause of this problem might be your patio remaining wet due to improper grading. If your hardscape is not pitched properly, water collects there and has nowhere to go creating a damp condition. This is more likely to happen on old brick than new brick. Old brick ismore porous.

(NH) We are concerned about retaining wall safety. We have an under garage and two 7 foot large boulder type retaining walls, one to each side of the garage. We also have a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old, and the retaining walls are a danger to them because there is no barrier to keep the children from running across the yard (at firstfloor
BEAUTIFUL DOGWOOD TREES Dogwood Trees in The Landscape. There are various kinds of Dogwood trees but basically three main types. These are the Flowering Dogwood, Kousa, and hybrids. The first is a native tree and the one you most likely think of when picturing this plant. It is also one of my favorites and one I use quite often in my landscape designs forclients.
BLUESTONE INSTALLATION Either are very strong and will hold up well. Bluestone can be set in mortar or dry laid, even for a front porch. It is used a lot and is a great stone. DRIVEWAY DIMENSIONS FOR YOUR PROJECT Basic Driveways. Width 9 – 12 feet. Width for two cars – minimum 18 feet. Driveway is 12 feet wide. I like the look of more narrow driveways so opt for 9 to 10 feet if it makes sense for your vehicles and design. I rarely design driveways to be wide enough to fit two cars at the street entry. BLUESTONE PATIO FILLER IN JOINTS ANSWER. You can use polymeric sand. You would apply it like you would sand in the joints. Once it is applied, it gets sprayed with water and then hardens. It is rather like a cross between sand and concrete joints. You have to make sure the pitch of the hardscape is correct. See my page on decomposed granite to read about the different types you can use. I am guessing that the looseness of the material is allowing weed seeds to imbed themselves in the DG. What makes a great design? * materials - did you know there are at least seven differentchoices?
* widths - know how narrow or wide to make your driveway * circular driveways - how large do they really have to be? * edgings - should you use one? * plantings - add color and interest Just a note...when it comes to driveway materials, don't feel that you have to use something that really stands out. The shape of the driveway, plantings and a great driveway designare
the most important for an attractive project.RELAX - THE PATIO

Hi Susan,
Thank you for putting so much thought into the design. We really like it, especially the curvilinear shape with clean lines. I love the curved seat wall and hypothetical placement of furniture, the shape of the path, etc. Thanks again for all your help. I'm getting excited about the plan becoming reality sometime soon. _Elaine, Pennsylvania_
