The first set of Famous Failures bulletin board materials were such a hit I knew I needed to build a second set. Click here to see my newest collection of 24 historic and modern examples of famous people who picked themselves up after early career failure.. I use the materials as an interactive bulletin CONQUERING QUESTION FATIGUE 6. Place students into groups of three and give each team just one question from the study guide. Before class, write each team’s question on a Post-It Note or just slice up an existing question sheet. The trio needs to discuss the question and become experts on the answer. Here’s a low-prep, high-quality formative assessment idea that I’ll definitely be adding to my classes this year. Thanks to a dear friend in the history department who encouraged me to modify her idea for my English teacher posse (You’re the best, M.W.!), I’m happy to present Odd One Out, a short-answer response idea that should OKAY, SO I WAS WRONG Okay, So I Was Wrong. I’ve been slow to embrace the idea of group essays. Several teachers I know use group essays, replacing one of the big writing assignments of the year with a group assignment where they place three or four students together and task them to collaborate on a single paper. This always feels like a cheat to me, especially 5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NEW MLA WORKS CITED Hi Margaret, Great questions! And I can understand your confusion. If you have students who need to add weight or maturity to their writing voices, a quick fix is to teach them that part of the problem lies in their habit of ending sentences with prepositions.
