Grief Resources. We want to express our deepest sympathy to anyone who has lost a loved one to the disease of addiction. The feelings we go through after such a devastating loss may seem unbearable at times, and it is important to seek the support of others so that we can beginto heal.
EXPECTATIONS
Expectations are High. Many people, including drug users themselves, have mistaken beliefs about drug addiction and recovery from addiction. Two of the most pervasive myths are that a person can get off drugs alone and that most addicts can become permanentlydrug-free.

While private health insurance plans offer some financial assistance during the critical detoxification phase, opiate addiction is extremely difficult to overcome and private resources and/or extreme vigilance is required afterward (see the question below onHELPFUL LINKS

OUR STORY
I founded Learn to Cope in 2004 out of desperation to help my son. Learn to Cope is a support organization that offers education, resources, peer support and hope for parents and family members coping with a loved one addicted to opioids or other drugs. I designed Learn to Cope to offer others the support and resources that I would have benefitted from when my family was in crisis. Today my son is in long-term recovery so there is hope, and I want families to have the support I struggled to find in the beginning of my family’s journey.Read More
“We learned about Narcan through attending a Learn to Cope meeting almost 3 years ago. Little did we know that we had to use it two months later when we found our son unresponsive in his bedroom due to an opiate overdose. Thanks to Narcan we were able to rescue our son from what might have been a fatal overdose. We strongly advise that every person who knows a person struggling with opiate addiction to seek access and get training on how to use Narcan.”Martin and Brigitte
Learn to Cope Brockton Parents “I was just thinking on my lunch break about what makes Learn to Cope different. It is the acknowledgement that as a parent, there is a multi-faceted effect on us when we are dealing with an addicted child. Understanding what we are doing to enable—and how to detach —empowers us and helps us see the things we are doing thatcontribute to
the continued progression of addiction. As parents with sick children of any sort, we are compelled by nature to educate ourselves about what ails our children. We are compelled by nature to learn about cures and/or treatments for our sick children. We are compelled to care about other people’s children falling victim to such devastation. By nature we are not able to leave a sick child flailing without learning about where, how, and if they can be treated. We may not be able to make them better, but we are compelled to learn how they might get better.” Mother and Learn to Cope member SUPPORT LEARN TO COPE Learn To Cope is a registered 5013C non profit organization.
