ABOUT US – LEDEG
The Ladakh Ecological Development Group (LEDeG) is a grassroots organization that has been working in the region since 1983 towards a vision of a sustainable future for Ladakh that is built on its culture and environment. Our mission is to demonstrate ecologically sound development models and to advocate regionally appropriate developmentpolicies.
HANDICRAFT – LEDEG LEDeG’s handicraft team takes care of the whole production cycle by advising, supporting and training the artisan groups, keeping in view the market demand. Since the majority of these SHGs are based in far-flung areas of Ladakh and have poor infrastructure, LEDeG has made a buy-back arrangement of handicrafts from these promoted SHGs.PRESENT PROJECTS
Target groups: 1) Functionaries and elected representatives of Ladakh. 2) District / State level agencies involved in sanitation and public services. 3) ~12,000 people from the poorest, under-served urban settlements in Leh. Final beneficiaries: 1) 270,000 residents of Leh. 2) 250,000+ annual visitors to Leh and surrounding areas. Until recently, Ladakhis grew and consumed their own grains, cereals and vegetables, prepared their own manure, seeds and other agricultural inputs, reared their own animals and prepared their own farms in an integrated and balanced manner as a response to Ladakh’s agroLIVEABLE LEH (EU)

The sanitation team of Ladakh Ecological Development Group (LEDeG) along with the Municipal Committee Leh (MCL) won the first position at AMRUT Technology Challenge, which was organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on November 19 at New Delhi. The award was presented by Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment RamdasAthawale.
