Conservancy focus. Madison Square Park Conservancy is the non-profit responsible for caring for the park. We are dedicated to nurturing our public space by focusing on the following areas: Community. Madison Square Park brings people together. Art. Public art ARBORETUM — MADISON SQUARE PARK CONSERVANCY Our trees give our park life. When you step beneath our canopy from the busy city streets you’ll instantly feel a refreshing change of atmosphere. With over 300 trees and a rich diversity in species, Madison Square Park is proud to be officially recognized as an accredited Level 2 arboretum by the ArbNet Arboretum AccreditationProgram.

Redbud Collection. Madison Square Park boasts 35 varieties of redbuds, among the most beautiful native trees of the Northeast. They blossom in the park during April, when clusters of stunning pink flowers along their stems and branches announce the return of warmer days. When these flowers fall, the trees’ heart-shaped foliage begins tounfold.

Ice Sculpture. Full Steam Ahead artist Arlene Shechet will collaborate with master ice carver Shintaro Okamoto to bring two historical figures to Madison Square Park in the form of two large-scale ice sculptures, to be realized on site in the Park on Friday, February 1 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM by Okamoto Studios..
