DEFENSE IN DEPTH
Defense in Depth – Part One. By Muller On 8 February 2017 In Strategy. In this series we’ll present a number of advanced tips and tricks for defending, for when simple suji and kabe aren’t enough. Today’s material is taken from chapter four of Hirasawa Genki’s 絶対にラスを引かない麻雀 ( Zettai ni Rasu wo HikanaiMaajan ).
MAHJONG FUNDAMENTALS 5: RIICHI Positive 1: It is a yaku. The biggest and instant benefit of riichi is that you gain a yaku worth 1 han. For hands below 4 han this doubles your score, and allows you to win. For any hand, so long as you can get to tenpai while it is closed, then riichi will allow you to win. This is especially important for hands where we start with a numberREPLAY REVIEW #5
Replay Review #5. Today’s replay review will be a little different – I’ll be walking through one of my own recent games and providing commentary on my own choices and thought processes. You can view the replay for yourself here. With three 6d and a 7d (what’s he doing in tokujou?), all with fairly high R, we can expect a tough fight.TOITOI DASH
The toitoi dash is a way to capitalise on an otherwise weak hand, making it useful for both attack and defense. Expand your horizons and add the dash to your repertoire, and you’ll be able to adapt to such situations a little better. WHAT WOULD BUDDHA DO… 2 By Krabman On 14 July 2019 InPhilosophy
What comes to your mind when you think of Buddhism? Bald guys meditating in faraway temples deep in the mountains? Good! That's an image commonly sold in the west. In this series of articles, I'm taking a closer look at the other side - the more grounded one. The practical one. You know, it's not that big of a deal to follow Buddhist guidelines while living in a serene place, isolated from the society (i.e. "everyday problems") and surrounded by people who are bent on doing the same. The true challenge is to work on your mind the Buddhist way in the midst of everyday life (Mahjong games) while dealing with not-so-compassionate and wise people on daily basis (atthe tables).
