Rogers was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on February 3, 1938. His father was a member of Norfolk’s Floodgates Quartet, a group that had a 15-minute radio broadcast every Sunday. POONANNY | MALACO RECORDS Poonanny Be Still was released in 1993 and was an immediate hit in the southern soul market. With songs from Bobby Rush, Denise LaSalle, Clarence Carter, Latimore and Poonanny himself there was plenty to work with. The Consolers made their first records in Miami in 1952 for Henry Stone, an entrepreneur whose 1970s releases on George McCrae and KC and the Sunshine Band for his T.K. The Caravans emerged in 1952 as an offshoot of Chicago singer Robert Anderson’s Gospel Caravan. The original Caravans consisted of vocalists Walker, Ora Lee Hopkins, Elyse Yancey and Nellie Grace Daniels with pianist Edward Robinson. Bessie Griffin, Iris Humble and pianist Charlotte Nelson replaced Hopkins, Daniels and Robinson in1953.
RUDOLPH STANFIELD JR. He produced and sang on It Ain’t Over (Till God Says It’s Over), the 1997 Malaco release by his cousin, the late Reverend James Moore. Stanfield also produced and sang on Moore’s final album, the March 2000 Malaco recording, Family and Friends, Live from Detroit.
