The videos embedded in the scavenger hunt experience have a total run time of approximately 21 minutes. Accompanying questions are linked to key concepts from the Grade 4, 6, and 7 Manitoba Science Curriculum. “NICE WOMEN DON’T WANT THE VOTE” A Travelling Exhibition Opportunity. “Nice Women Don’t Want the Vote” was a phrase attributed to Manitoba’s Premier Sir Rodmond Roblin during a heated exchange with suffragist Nellie McClung. Now it’s the title of an exhibit commemorating the hundredth anniversary of the right to vote for women in Manitoba in 1916. THE FOSSILS SURROUND US The Fossils Surround Us. Mar 28, 2015. An orthoconic cephalopod (Armenoceras?) near the Planetarium. Those of us who live in Winnipeg know that fossils are never far away. HBC Collection. In 1994, the Hudson’s Bay Company, one of the world’s oldest surviving corporations, donated its artifact collection to The Manitoba Museum. The HBC began to acquire historical objects for a new museum in Winnipeg in 1920. Over the years, the holdings grew from aNONSUCH GALLERY
The Nonsuch replica, seen in the Gallery, was built in England in 1968 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Hudson’s Bay Company. Built using hand tools of the 17th century it is considered one of the finest replicas in the world, and sailed 14,000 kilometres of salt and fresh water before finding her home at the Manitoba Museum in 1974.AN ACT OF KINDNESS
An Act of Kindness. Jan 20, 2014. When I first started at the museum I spent a lot of time opening cabinets and drawers to check out this remarkable collection that is now under my care.
