MAR 19 HOW TO MAKE A PVC NIDDY NODDYBeth
Easy DIY , Fiber Arts, Frugal Crafts
, Handspun ,
Spinning Yarn
In this post, I’ll show you how to make a niddy noddy out of PVC pipe. This costs around $5, and it only takes a few minutes to assemble once you have your parts. The best part is that you can use this for dyeing yarn, setting your handspun yarn with steam, or just holding your skeins of yarn before you wind them into balls. Wood niddy noddies would warp or get moldy if you consistently get them wet, so the PVC version is a more frugal option as well as moreversatile.

FEB 19 CAN YOU USE ARM KNITTING YARN FOR SPINNING?Beth
Product Review , Fiber Arts, Spinning Yarn
Lately, I’ve seen bulky arm knitting yarn everywhere, and I thought, _that looks a lot like the roving I use for spinning_. In fact, I’ve even seen sellers tweak their keywords to make spinning fiber pull double duty as arm knitting yarn! But there are also some dedicated yarns made specifically for arm knitters, and it looks like lightly twisted spinning fiber. So I got some to test out whether it would work as spinning fiber or whether it was processed in such a way that would prevent it from being spun. In this post I’ll go over everything you need to know about using bulky arm knitting yarn with your spinning wheel.Feb 8

Vintage Sewing Machine , SewingMachine , Serger

In this post, I’ll show you how to clean, oil, troubleshoot, repair, and use a vintage Simplicity Easy Lock Serger SL800. I’ve seen vintage sergers in other people’s collections, and I always felt a little jealous, but I had never come across one until recently, and then I found two in a row! While I have a modern serger, many people swear by vintage sergers, which were built to last, with all metal parts, as opposed to the plastic used in and on most modern sergers. I paid $5 for this one, which is much cheaper than the hundreds you’ll pay for a brand new serger.Apr 14
