Sleeping with dragons/ by Sigmadog.comΉρωες

Μαρία Ορτουλίδου Posted in Contributions| Tagged

THE DRUG QUEEN: OR, TV DREAMS AND REAL NIGHTMARES IN REQUIEM FOR A DREAM – BY DIMITRA GKOTOSOPOULOU Posted on July 17, 2017by mindsofart

“Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine.” “Grant them eternal rest, O Lord.” In a world of reality and of an even more real illusion, people are trying to make their dreams come true. The nature of those dreams, however, is often determined by cultural and social influences. In a media culture, television is a system that controls dreams, but is also a means of escape from reality. When reality fails to satisfy people’s desires and dreams, then only one way remains to live the dream: live in the illusion. The borders between reality and illusion break down, and they become one. Darren Aronofsky’s 2000 film _Requiem for a Dream_ is a perfect example of the role of television in this relationship between reality and illusion. Drawing from Aronofsky’s film, I will discuss television’s influence in the way people perceive the world as well as the addictions that the medium can create. I will specifically focus on Sara Goldfarb’s (Ellen Burstyn) character in order to observe more closely the influence of television on the female figure. Gustav Klimt – Tragedy (1987)IRA
Μαρία Ορτουλίδου Posted in Contributions| Tagged

Holding Hands – by Anna KoutsidouSenses
by Dimitra Gkotosopoulou A smile brings me to life. So much needed, small and faint like the morning breeze which caresses my face. Sometimes it’s a grin, powerful, intense, which makes the eyes sparkle always accompanied by the fear of losing it. I hold my life in my hands and it’s my hands that keep me in life. Their touch, inquisitive and hesitant, transforms into a fierce grip that overwhelms my soul with feelings as I sense the vibrations of the world. It’s a taste, the taste of life that keeps me alive. The bittersweet flavor which spreads through my body and makes me realize that pain is part of joy. And I don’t really care; I just want to taste more. It’s my smile when I see your smile, it’s my hands when they hold your body tight, it’s the taste of your lips on minethat keep me alive.
