Program Overview. When Miriam’s Kitchen was founded in October 1983, we served only breakfast. But after seeing the same individuals in our dining room year after year, we recognized that serving meals was not enough. Miriam’s Kitchen was founded in 1983 to meet the urgent needs of people experiencing homelessness in downtown Washington, DC. Three organizations – Western Presbyterian Church, Unity Church and the George Washington University Hillel – banded together to serve ourneighbors.

Waldon Adams was a member of the Miriam’s Kitchen family for over seven years. He was a founding member of The Way Home Campaign, an advocacy movement to end chronic homelessness in D.C. that launched in 2014. He joined the staff of Miriam’s Kitchen as an Advocacy Fellow in 2015, and throughout the years has worn many hats as a member ofMIRIAM'S KITCHEN
Every summer, each department at Miriam’s Kitchen makes the time to step away from their daily tasks and plan for the coming fiscal year. During the planning process, each department reviews their measures and develops targets based on past data and what is known about the environment at that time. DONATE TO HIKING 4 HOUSING Donate $20 in honor of Doug's 20 years of service. $20 can help to provide 20 fresh, delicious, made-from-scratch meals for our neighbors experiencing homelessness.; Donate $40 in honor of the 40,000 veterans currently estimated to be homeless in the United States.; Donate $100 because 100% of all donations will go directly to supporting Miriam’s Kitchen’s programs and advocacy efforts. That’s why in 2014, Miriam’s Kitchen made the most important expansion of services in its history: to provide Supportive Services to 95 residents in the District’s Permanent Supportive Housing program. Miriam’s Kitchen has ramped up efforts to keep our guests experiencing homelessness and the wider community healthy, safe, and informed.
