Critical thinking exercises are as important to our minds as physical exercise is to our bodies. In the same way children are born with the ability to cry, children are born with an ability to think. And they do! But the complexity of their thinking is a different story. Critical thinking needs to be fostered and promoted. 10 CLASSROOM SUPPLIES I USE EVERY YEAR Magnet Circles. Magnet circles are one of my must-have purchases every year. I love making things magnetic for my classroom as much as possible! In the picture above, I stuck magnet circles to the back of our stop and jot posters and our number talk posters. I can easily stick them up in front of the classroom on my whiteboard, move them to the back whiteboard during small-groups if needed VISUAL DISCRIMINATION AND WORD RECOGNITION Visual discrimination is a visual perceptual skill. It is because of these skills that allow us to interpret information, analyze information, and make sense of what we are seeing. In order to read, children must have gained obtained some level of competency in theseimportant skills.

Compare and Contrast Activity Fun! Our big comprehension focus for the 4th quarter is Comparing and Contrasting. For the first few weeks, we focus on the basics. We use lots of photographs and visual activities to practice comparing and contrasting two objects, animals, people, or places. I want to make sure my students have a solid CAUSE & EFFECT: MAKING IT MEMORABLE! We even broke that down into two different cause and effect scenarios: “Miss DeCarbo dropped the egg. As a result, it hit the floor.” and “Because the egg hit the floor, the egg cracked open.”. Ahhnow we were digging deeper! Make It Hands-On. After we discussed real life examples and made it concrete, it was time to put cause and TEXT EVIDENCE READING PASSAGES: BIOGRAPHY EDITION! Here’s a closer look at the different parts of these passages. They are set up the same way as my seasonal packs. Students read the passage three times for fluency, much like my Sight Word Passages for Reading Intervention. Then, students use their crayons to READING INTERVENTION BINDER FOR BEGINNING READERS NO PREP Description. This is a no-prep reading intervention binder that explicitly teaches and reinforces letter identification, letter sounds, phonemic awareness, handwriting, CVC words, blends, digraphs, nonsense words, phoneme segmentation, sentence fluency, and more!MISS DECARBO
