MERIDION CIRCULARE
Shape Valves clavate, wedge-shaped in girdle view. Symmetry Heteropolar, bilaterally symmetrical. Axial area Narrow, linear. Other features Prominent transapical ribs. SEM morphology Small spines can be located along the valve margin. Uniseriate, unevenly spaced striae with round, occluded external areola openings. A large transapically elongated rimoportula near the head pole. NAVICULA CRYPTOTENELLA Size 14-40 µm long, 5-7 µm wide (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 1985). Shape Lanceolate with acutely rounded apices. Symmetry Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical. Striae Radiate in the central part of the valve becoming convergent towards the apices; central shorter stria on each side. (12)14-16 in 10 µm (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 1985). Axial area Well defined, narrow linear. 13TH EUROPEAN DIATOM MEETING The 13th European Diatom Meeting (formerly Central European Diatom Meeting) will be hosted online by Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales. Diatom Flora of Britian and Ireland. Shape Elliptic with obtuse point particularly on raphe valve, raphe valve concave, rapheless valve convex, flexed in girdle view. Symmetry Valves isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical. Valve Frustules heterovalvar. Striae On raphe valve striae comprising dot-like areolae, slightly radiate in the valve centre, becoming more radiate towards the valve ends. PINNULARIA | DIATOM FLORA OF BRITIAN AND IRELAND Frustules isovalvar, isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical. Valve outline usually linear or linear-lanceolate, apices rounded, subrostrate or subcapitate; occasionally with undulate valve margins. Cells can lie in either valve or girdle view. The genus includes some of the largest freshwater diatoms. Striae alveolate, comprising an elongated NAVICULA CRYPTOTENELLA Size 14-40 µm long, 5-7 µm wide (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 1985).
