MICK JAGGER’S HEART SURGERY June 16, 2020 6892 10. Dr. Mustafa Ahmed. In 2019, Mick Jagger underwent heart surgery on a heart valve. Amazingly, he was able to get back to his musical activities rather quickly after surgery. This is a result of his heart surgery being performed through a very minimally invasive technique. Mick Jagger’s heart surgery is knownas ‘aortic
HEART BLOCKAGE: EXPLAINED WITH PICTURES • MYHEART The picture above shows what we call angiographically normal coronary arteries. The artery appears smooth with no irregularity. The reason we call it that is that although it looks normal by angiogram, and there is clearly no significant heart blockage, there may be deposition of plaque in the walls of the artery that can’t be seen on this test.. That can still progress over time, and it’s THE LAD ARTERY EXPLAINED! MYHEART The LAD Artery. LAD stands for left anterior descending artery. It is a coronary artery, which is the name given to arteries that supply the heart muscle with blood. The LAD is considered the most important of the three main coronary arteries and is almost always the largest. It’s called the LAD because is on the left side of the heart (leftFAST HEART RATE
A fast heart rate is known as tachycardia and commonly defined as a heart rate greater than 100 beats per minute. Although a fast heart rate is commonly defined as a heart rate greater than 100 beats per minute, there is no specific cut off for what defines a significantly fast heart rate or a number above which a fast heart rate becomes anissue.

What Does An Echocardiogram Show? An echocardiogram is used to show possible abnormalities of the heart structure and function that may be the cause for symptoms thought to be related to heart disease. An echocardiogram shows us the structure and function of the heart. It provides information on the heart pumping function and heart size.METOPROLOL TARTRATE
Metoprolol Tartrate is a commonly prescribed medication. It is in a class of medicines known as beta-blockers and is commonly used for heart conditions. These conditions may include chest pain, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, and heart failure amongst others. Some people use beta-blockers such as Metoprolol Tartrate formigraine

AORTIC ANEURYSM
What Is An Aortic Aneurysm? Aortic aneurysm describes an aorta that is enlarged in size. If it becomes significantly large it can lead to catastrophic complications. The aorta is the large blood vessel that the heart pumps into via the aortic valve every time it beats.Incredibly the aorta pumps around 200,000,000 liters of blood around the body in a lifetime. An echocardiogram shows us the structure and function of the heart. It provides information on the heart pumping function and heart size. CAN HEART ATTACK DAMAGE BE REVERSED? • MYHEART One of the most frequent questions our patients ask after surviving a heart attack is: Can heart attack damage be reversed? Every year, over 700,000 Americans have a heart attack.Improvements in the treatment of myocardial infarction, especially with the reopening of the culprit artery with percutaneous coronary intervention, have led to a large number of heart attack survivors. ELIQUIS VERSUS WARFARIN When deciding what type of blood thinner is best, the question of Eliquis versus Warfarin often arises. Blood thinners, also called anticoagulants, are a class of medications that “thin” or prolong the time it takes for your blood to form a blood clot. Simply put, blood thinners stop blood clots. The usefulness of blood thinners HOW LONG SHOULD I TAKE MY PLAVIX AFTER STENTING? • MYHEART How long should I take my Plavix after coronary stent is a frequent and debatable question facing our field of interventional cardiology. Background Coronary artery disease is a progressive condition that is a result of atherosclerosis. From damage of the inner layer of the artery, lipid or fat accumulates in the wall and leads toPLAVIX SIDE EFFECTS
Plavix is the trade name of the drug clopidogrel and is basically an anti-blood clotting agent. One of the ways blood clots form is by lots of little cells called platelets sticking together. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE A STRESS TEST • MYHEART I am high risk: This is where it is a bit tricky. It is reasonable to undergo stress testing if you fall in the high risk category. If you had a normal stress test less than two years ago and you truly have no chest pain (or anginal equivalents) then you likely do not need to repeat your stress test. CHEST PAIN IN KIDS: EXPLAINED BY A PEDIATRIC Chest Pain in Kids: A Common Complaint. Chest pain in kids is a very common complaint that is often heard from young children to teenagers. More often than not it is not a symptom of heart disease in children. In fact, over 95% of children referred to see a pediatric cardiologist for chest pain, do not have any identifiable heart cause. CARDIOMEGALY EXPLAINED BY A CARDIOLOGIST • MYHEART The term cardiomegaly usually refers to an enlarged heart as seen on imaging tests, usually the chest X-ray. The heart is composed of four chambers, and an enlargement of any of the chambers can result in cardiomegaly. A patient with an irregular heartbeat, such as atrial fibrillation, can have a severe enlargement of the heart’s atrialchambers.
HEART BYPASS SURGERY EXPLAINED IN INCREDIBLE PICTURES Heart bypass surgery is an open-heart surgery and the heart needs to be exposed. In the case of bypass surgery this is done by sawing through the breastbone in a technique known as median sternotomy. A specially designed electric saw is used for this. A median sternotomy is demonstrated in the next image. Once the bone is cut, smallbleeders

Heart monitors are vital in making a diagnosis. First patients are screened with an ECG (electrocardiogram). WHAT TO EXPECT: NUCLEAR STRESS TEST • MYHEART .NET A nuclear stress test is a minimally invasive diagnostic imaging procedure designed to evaluate the perfusion of blood through the coronary arteries to the heart muscle. Images of the heart are acquired when the heart is in a baseline resting state and again after the heart has been exercised, or stressed. Images are taken usingspecialized
HOW LONG SHOULD I TAKE MY PLAVIX AFTER STENTING? • MYHEART How long should I take my Plavix after coronary stent is a frequent and debatable question facing our field of interventional cardiology. Background Coronary artery disease is a progressive condition that is a result of atherosclerosis. From damage of the inner layer of the artery, lipid or fat accumulates in the wall and leads toPLAVIX SIDE EFFECTS
Plavix is the trade name of the drug clopidogrel and is basically an anti-blood clotting agent. One of the ways blood clots form is by lots of little cells called platelets sticking together. RVSP – RIGHT VENTRICULAR SYSTOLIC PRESSURE • MYHEART RVSP is short for right ventricular systolic pressure. RVSP is a commonly searched term because it is found on almost all echocardiogram reports. It is important as the RVSP is used to estimate the pressure inside the artery that supplies the lung with blood. In most cases, the RVSP equals the pulmonary artery pressure. WHAT IF YOU HAVE MILD CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE? • MYHEART Medicines such as nitrates, beta-blockers, calcium antagonists, ranolazine, or interventions to reopen the arteries such as coronary stenting can relieve ischemia and the patient’s symptoms. Usually, diuretics are recommended to alleviate symptoms of congestion. The management of fluid in the body is very important in patients who haveheart

ENLARGED HEART
Enlarged heart refers to enlargement of either the heart chamber size or the heart muscle size in a process known as hypertrophy. Often this enlarged heart occurs as a response to stresses faced within the heart and although initially may be a form of compensatory response it often ultimately turns out to be somewhat harmful. In mitral regurgitation the mitral valve that separates the upper and lower chambers of the left heart is leaky. A classic cause for this leak is mitral valve prolapse. In mitral regurgitation the heart is placed under a volume overload stress and the heart enlarges by increased chamber size and often-thinner walls in a process known as eccentric hypertrophy. The heart is composed of four chambers, and an enlargement of any of the chambers can result in cardiomegaly. A patient with an irregular heartbeat, such as atrial fibrillation, can have a severe enlargement of the heart’s atrialchambers.
