Employment opportunities on farms. Behind the wonderful produce that comes from Scottish farms is a dedicated and skilled workforce. During these extremely challenging times, it is going to be very difficult for farmers to recruit seasonal workers in the usual manner NFU SCOTLAND PUBLICATIONS There is an array of publications, ranging from our priorities for Scottish farming and crofting, specific documents on Brexit and the implications for Scottish agriculture, alongside updates on every farming sector, available to you as a member of NFU Scotland. WHAT SCOTLAND'S FARMING INDUSTRY PRODUCES What We Produce. Number of people working in Agriculture. The total number of people working in agriculture dropped over the past year. The total number fell by 400 workers to 66,600 in June 2018.NFU SCOTLAND

Seasonal migrant workers are a vital asset to soft fruit and vegetable production in Scotland. The information on this page is here to help keep farmers updated on some of the requirements of employing seasonal labour, as well as spotting the risks of labour exploitation. LOGIN DETAILS WILL BE SENT NFU Scotland Policy Team Adds New Recruit . David Michie joins the policy team as Policy Manager for Crops Joining the Union as Policy Manager for Crops, David Michie takes over from Peter Loggie who retires in early April. SOFT FRUIT SECTOR GETTING BACK ON TRACK The farm: -. The total farm area is 710 acres and is split between soft fruit, arable rotation, potatoes and vining peas. 167 acres of soft fruit is grown of which 90 acres is on rented ground. Soft fruit crops are Strawberries - 110 acres, Raspberries – 17 acres, Blueberries – 40 acres. A trial of 5 acres of cherries have beenplanted.
