Far too often, the experiences and voices of Native survivors of violence are THE FEDERAL TRUST RESPONSIBILITY AND MMIW The federal Indian trust responsibility is a legally enforceable fiduciary obligation under which the United States “has charged itself with moral obligations of the highest responsibility and trust” toward Indian tribes. 2. Each federal department has a written policy articulating this responsibility. MMIWG | NATIONAL DAY OF AWARENESS BUILDING A RESISTANCE Government inaction is the fuel beneath the surface of the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (MMIWG). The jurisdictional barriers provide a revolving door for abusers and predators to swing into and exit Tribal communities with impunity.INDIGENOUS HEALING

Since 2017, actions on May 5th to honor missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (MMIWG) at the local, regional, and national level continue to grow across the United States and internationally. These efforts are as varied as the Indian Nations and Indigenous communities where they are being organized. MISSING AND MURDERED INDIGENOUS WOMEN AND GIRLS Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The current reports of abduction and murder of Native women and girls are alarming and represent one of the most horrific aspects of the spectrum of violence committed against Native women. The murder rate of Native women is more than ten times the national average on some reservations. FAMILY VIOLENCE AND PREVENTION SERVICES ACT 2021 Native Women Need Increased Funding for Shelter and Supportive Services Authorization for the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA), which is the only federal grant program dedicated to domestic violence shelter and supportive services, expired in 2015.WEBINAR | NIWRC
