Woolly mullein (or "wooly" - it's spelled both ways) is also known as common mullein, great mullein, flannel mullein, velvet dock, flannel leaf, witch's taper, candlestick and other names. It grows in "disturbed places" such as roadsides, ditches, fields and abandoned areas. Multiply all that by the number of goats in your herd and oh my, there's a lot to keep track of. RECORDKEEPING ON THE HOMESTEAD: GOAT RECORDS (INCLUDING Goat printable forms. CHOOSING THE BEST GOAT BREED FOR YOUR HOMESTEAD'S NEEDS The LaMancha breed originated from Spanish goats. Their distinguishing feature is their small ears. LaManchas can be born with either "elf ears" or "gopher ears." Gopher ears can be up to one inch long, with elf ears being as long as two inches. The Nigerian Dwarf is a miniature dairy goat breed. HOW TO MAKE MOLASSES HORSE TREATS Preheat oven to 375º. Spray cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray. In a large bowl mix the ingredients together thoroughly. The mixture shouldn’t be too wet and should stick together. If necessary, add more flour. Drop teaspoon-sized balls on cookie sheet 10 MUST-HAVE ITEMS FOR GOATS Buckets and feed scoops. Buckets were the first thing I bought for our first two weanling goats. Buckets hold grain and water plus they're great for storing smaller pieces of equipment in the feed room, and for mixing soapy water for goat baths. I use margarine tubs to scoop feed out of feed bags, and a coffee can to carry feed to the animals. HOW TO MAKE A POWER OUTAGE KIT Add a jar of instant coffee if you're a coffee drinker, or single-serving cans of fruit juice, V-8, and Gatorade. You'll need bottled water too, of course. In most rural areas, if the electricity goes off, so does your well pump. You'll need bottled water for cooking and drinking (and coffee making). HOW TO FORAGE, HARVEST AND DRY YARROW How to dry yarrow. Use kitchen shears to cut the flower heads off the stems, as close to the flowers as you can. Then, holding the top of the stem in one hand, run your hand down the stem from top to bottom to remove the leaves. When it's finished sucking out the air, remove the attachment. The top canning lid will come off, but the other will have sealed to the jar. Or try adifferent lid.
HOW TO BUILD SLIDING DOOR FOR YOUR CHICKEN COOP I cut four pieces of the 1x4 for the side pieces, and just offset the top pieces to form the channel. I also added a bottom piece that overlaps the door a bit so that raccoons can't get their little fingers underneath and push the door up. The cord goes from the eye hook in the top of the door, up the outside wall of the coop andthrough an eye

Usually I harvest enough to make a big batch of infused oil to use throughout the year. HOW TO BUILD A SUMMER COMPOST PILE A few shovelfuls of regular dirt will give your compost pile the microbes needed to start working on those raw ingredients. You can also give your compost pile a jumpstart with a layer of comfrey leaves if you have them. Just layer them in with the rest of your ingredients. Comfrey breaks down very quickly and is an excellentcompost activator.

HOW TO MEASURE BY PARTS If there are three ingredients, and one requires "two parts" while the other two are "one part" each, it would be easy to figure out that you could use one ounce as the basic unit of measurement. The basic recipe of 2 parts + 1 part + 1 part = 4 parts would then be 2 ounces + 1 ounce + 1 ounce = the total amount of 4 ounces which will fit 77 DELICIOUS WAYS TO SERVE ASPARAGUS Chicken Asparagus Pasta from Courtney's Sweets.
