HILARIOUS FAMILY SERIES: GABBY DURAN AND THE UNSITTABLES We attended the event as a guest of Disney. I love watching the Disney Channel with my children. The one thing I love about the network is that I never had to worry about pre-screening a show before allowing the kids to watch it. I always have comfort in knowing that everything on the network is kid-friendly, and aligns with our family morals. Recently, our family was invited to the Disneyland Resort to get a sneak peek of the new television series, Gabby Duran and the Unsittables. When I told my kids about the event, they could not wait (even my teenagers). The kids had already seen the previews on the Disney Channel and were excited to begin watching the new series. The morning of the event, the kids got dressed right away, and we drove to the Happiest Place on Earth for a day full of Disney fun. After walking through the magical gates, we entered the theater, where a delicious breakfast was awaiting us. We visited with friends, mingled with the cast, and savored the goodness of a healthy breakfast. Before we knew it, it was time to enter the theater to see the show. Before the show began, the creators of the series took the stage and introduced the cast. Everyone in the audience cheered as the lights started to dim, and the show began. I never expected to laugh so much while watching a television series, but I did. At first, I thought that I was the only one in the audience who thought it was so hilarious. But when I looked around, everyone was enjoying the show as much as I was. Even my 17 (almost 18-year-old) was laughing. I can’t express how funny it is and how relatable the characters are. Once the episode was over, my kids asked if they could see another. Unfortunately, we have to wait to watch more of the show on the Disney Channel, which airs starting tonight at 9 pm ET/PT. After seeing the first episode, we got a chance to meet with the cast. They are just as funny in real life as they are in the show. My kids enjoyed talking with them and taking a couple of pictures before going into Disneyland to spend the day. We spent the remainder of the day, creating memories that will last a lifetime at the Disneyland Resort. We snacked on churros, had ice cream, screamed on roller...Read More

SPOOKTACULAR FAMILY FUN AT KNOTT’S SPOOKY FARM We visited as a guest of Knott’s From late September to late December, my family weekends are jam-packed with fun. From fall workshops to pumpkin patches to family portraits, Thanksgiving, gingerbread baking, Santa, Christmas, and ending with New Year’s, we are booked. I love this time of year, and I try my hardest to pack everything in. My kids are growing out of the pumpkin patch rides and fun, but they still love our yearly tradition of picking pumpkins and decorating them. This year we decided to change things up and headed to Knott’s Spooky Farm for some Halloween fun. Yes, you read it right, Spooky Farm, not Scary Farm. So what is Spooky farm? Knott’s Spooky Farm is a family-friendly Halloween celebration geared for kids ages 3-11. You and your family can celebrate with Snoopy and the gang the spooky season as the park is transformed with themed décor and wicked fun around every corner. You can trick or treat in Ghost Town, watch the Monsters are Coming show at Camp Snoopy. Plus, take pictures in front of the great pumpkin, visit with the Peanuts Gang, decorate pumpkins, be part of the Peanuts costume contest, and enjoy Halloween themed treats such as Peaches and Screams funnel cake! Treat bags containing event maps and other goodies will be distributed to children age 3 to 11 from opening until 4:30 pm with general admission. I love themed costumes, so this year I decided that we would dress like our beloved Peanut characters, and you can too. All you need are shirts, scissors, and sharpies to create your own DIY costume. I went to Michaels and purchased an oversized yellow shirt for Charlie Brown, a Blue for Lucy, and red for Linus. Next, I copied the designs of the shirts and ta-da we had costumes all under $10. It’s super easy to make, and we had a lot of fun dressing the parts. The best way to experience Knott’s Spooky Farm is with a Season Pass. Why not treat your family to all that Knott’s has to offer for as little as $8 a month! A Regular Season Pass includes unlimited admission in 2020 to Knott’s Berry Farm with no blackout dates. A Gold Season Pass includes unlimited admission in 2020 to both Knott’s Berry Farm and Knott’s Soak City Waterpark with no blackout dates. Regular passes are just $99 or eleven easy payments of $8.00 after the initial payment, and...Read More

PLAY-BASED LEARNING WITH TINKERGARTEN Sponsored Having a degree in Early Childhood Education, play-based learning has always been a passion of mine while raising my children. There is something magical about watching children learn through nature. My older two children attended a traditional elementary school, and my youngest is currently enrolled in a Waldorf school. I have been able to see the significant difference between the two educational philosophies. I have been able to see how much my younger son has thrived by learning through play, nature, and an education based on my child’s development. “Education is a journey, not a race.” A lot of families that attend our elementary school also participate in Tinkergarten classes with their children. Tinkergarten offers educational experiences for children ages six months to 8 years of age in the best classroom, nature! Children have a unique opportunity to learn through play in the outdoors at one of your favorite Orange County parks. They encourage a love for learning through nature. The outdoor classes are designed to engage and inspire children in building skill sets around empathy, collaboration, creativity, persistence, and problem-solving. Plus, parents get to attend the classes with their children and have the unique opportunity to watch the spark of love for learning twinkle in the eyes of their children. One thing that I love about Tinkergarten is that each season they focus on a new skill. Once children have mastered the skill, they will earn a special iron-on skill badge. Each season, we focus on a key skill. Complete a season and earn a one of a kind iron-on skill badge. What to Expect at Tinkergarten Each week, they present a new expert designed play scenario to challenge each child, as they learn in a supportive, mixed-age social group. Their lessons are inspiring invitations to play, and their Leaders, together with parents and caregivers, support children at driving their own learning. Over the course of each unique season, powerful themes emerge and children strengthen essential skills through play. Registration Tinkergarten is currently accepting new students during their Fall registration. Plus, all our readers can take advantage of a 10% discount off your first session by using the discount code OCMOM. Visit Tinkergarten.com to find a class at your local park. CITY OF HOPE “WISHING TREE” AT MORE THAN PINK WALK Sponsored One of the special things that my daughter and I saw at the Susan G. Komen More Thank Pink walk over the weekend was the City of Hope Wishing Tree. It was the first thing that we saw at the walk, and we spent more of our time reading personalized wishes on the trees. There were multiple trees where attendees were invited to write a wish on a colored tag, and then hang it on one of the wishing trees. Something special that I learned when talking with the people from the City of Hope is that they have these trees on their campus in Duarte. Plus, they are hoping to have them at the upcoming facility in Orange County that is expected to open in FivePoint’s Great Park Neighborhoods by 2021. The new state-of-the-art cancer campus is going to be 19,000-square-foot building. It will include an outpatient center and a clinical research center. Plus, it will be Orange County’s only specialty hospital focused on treating and curing cancer! At the “More Than Pink” walk, my daughter and I took the time to write inspirational messages on the cards. We then hung them on the different trees displayed at the walk. It was a great time to talk to my daughter about breast cancer, the importance of always checking her breasts, and having regular medical examinations. Once we were done hanging our wishes on the tree, it was time for the remembrance ceremony. Everyone attending the walk came together in front of the stage. Then a group of women made a parade down the center of the crowd. At the stage, they took time to remember those who had lost their lives to breast cancer. I couldn’t help but cry when they released the group of white doves into the air. Then it was time for the walk to begin. Everyone gathered by the starting line, and the walk started. There were crowds of people that lined the streets, cheering everyone on who was walking in support of breast cancer research. It was a morning that my daughter and I will never forget. Also, we are so grateful for all the work that the City of Hope has done to help save lives. Having them come to Orange County is going to be instrumental in helping to save the lives of so many women in our community. The City of Hope has more than 500 clinical trialsand...

We attended the Aladdin premiere as a guest of Disney Aladdin is one of my daughter’s favorite stories of all-time. We got a chance to see the film last week, and she fell in love with the live action film just as much as the animated version. She loved the movie so much, and I was thrilled to surprise her with the news that we would see it again at the world premiere! She nearly fainted when I told her the night before that I would be picking her up early from school to attend the premiere. She immediately started going through her closet in search of the perfect dress to walk down the carpet wearing. The morning of the premiere, I picked my daughter up early from school, and we went to Los Angeles. We started at the DryBar, getting pampered with a fresh blow-out and curls. Once our hair was done, it was time to drive over to the El Capitan Theatre for the world premiere. The minute that we arrived at the El Capitan, you could feel the excitement in the air as fans were lined up along the street in hopes of getting a glimpse of their favorite celebrities. We got our tickets and then slowly made our way down...Read More
EPIC FAMILY STAYCATION AT THE PACIFIC EDGE HOTEL Posted by Shelby Barone on Mar 16, 2016 in Featured, Staycation

We stayed as a guest of the venue It has been a couple of years since we last had a family getaway to the Pacific Edge Hotel in Laguna Beach, and when I noticed the temperatures were getting warmer, I immediately jumped at the chance to stay near the beach for the weekend. The weather was perfect, the hotel was plush, the food was incredible, which made our weekend one of the best family staycations that we have had in a long time. We arrived on a Friday evening after the kids were done with school, and my husband was done with work. We checked into our room just in time to enjoy the beautiful sunset over the Pacific ocean. The kids squealed with delight while watching dolphins jumping in the waves while the sun slowly disappeared on the horizon. We took our shoes off and walked down to the beach for an evening walk before dinner. Our family bond became stronger than ever before as my husband, and I walked hand in hand while talking about our week with the kids splashing their toes in the water. Before returning to our room for the evening, we walked next door to Driftwood Kitchen for dinner. My husband sunk his taste buds into ajuicy...
