We use our grassroots voice to advocate for a sustainable farming and food sector on issues that impact our more than 38,000 farm members, our industry and our rural communities. This resource includes information about existing programs and new financial assistance measures. ONTARIO GOVERNMENT FREEZES PROPERTY ASSESSMENT VALUES FOR A key highlight of the Ontario government’s 2021 budget was the announcement that property assessments under the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) will be frozen again in 2022. In lastyear’s budget,
NEW DEADLINE AND ONLINE PLATFORM FOR 2021 FARM BUSINESS Ontario farmers will have more time to complete and submit their 2021 Farm Business Registration (FBR). Agricorp officially extended the FBR deadline to help alleviate stress and pressure caused by COVID-19 and to give registrants additional time to learn how to navigate the new online registration system.NUISANCE WILDLIFE

There is a ban on hunting and trapping wolves and coyotes in the 39 townships immediately around Algonquin Park. As well, there are restrictions on hunting wolves and coyotes in Northern Ontario (closed LINE FENCES AND THE LAW IN ONTARIO Line fences mark the boundary between abutting properties. While section 3 of the Line Fences Act gives property owners the right to build and maintain line fences, it does not force property owners to build line fences to mark their boundaries.. The Line Fences Act never mentions livestock! Other statutes, such as the Municipal Act and the Pounds Act, as well as common law, impose a duty PROTECT ONTARIO’S FARMS AND FOOD Although Ontario farmers do a lot with a little, only about 5% of land in the province can actually produce food. More than 200 different fruits, vegetables, grains and livestock are grown or raised right here at home. The land that supports this food production is a finite resource 1. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FBR membership is for farm businesses who declare gross farm income of more than $7,000 for taxation purposes. To become an FBR member, you must contact AGRICORP (1-866-327-3678) to register your farm business. This registration will provide you the opportunity to join OFA as an FBR member. IFM membership is for practicing farmers and retired STAY-AT-HOME EXEMPTION In response to the Ontario government’s stay-at-home orders which came into effect at 12:01 a.m. on April 8, 2021, OFA has developed the Stay-at-Home Exemption Letter for members and their employees. The letter clearly outlines that under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMPCA), any person (farmer or employee) carrying the letter is considered exempt from the stay-at TAXATION | ONTARIO FEDERATION OF AGRICULTURE Scenario 2: Farmer Uses Barn for Processing Agricultural products that he or she produced. Agricorp officially extended the FBR deadline to help alleviate stress and pressure caused by COVID-19 and to give registrants additional time to learn how to navigate the new online registration system. LINE FENCES AND THE LAW IN ONTARIO Line fences mark the boundary between abutting properties. While section 3 of the Line Fences Act gives property owners the right to build and maintain line fences, it does not force property owners to build line fences to mark their boundaries.. The Line Fences Act never mentions livestock! Other statutes, such as the Municipal Act and the Pounds Act, as well as common law, impose a duty PROTECT ONTARIO’S FARMS AND FOOD Although Ontario farmers do a lot with a little, only about 5% of land in the province can actually produce food. TAXATION | ONTARIO FEDERATION OF AGRICULTURE In 2021, the federal tax rate for incorporated small businesses is 9% and the provincial tax rate is 3.2% for a combined tax rate of 12.2%. The small business tax rate will benefit small to moderate farming operations in Ontario. The small business tax rate applies to Ontario farm operations with $500,000 or less in farm income. STAY-AT-HOME EXEMPTION In response to the Ontario government’s stay-at-home orders which came into effect at 12:01 a.m. on April 8, 2021, OFA has developed the Stay-at-Home Exemption Letter for members and their employees. The letter clearly outlines that under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMPCA), any person (farmer or employee) carrying the letter is considered exempt from the stay-at NATURAL GAS EXPANSION TO RURAL, NORTHERN AND INDIGENOUS GUELPH, ON – The Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) welcomes the provincial government’s plan to bring affordable energy to more families, farms and businesses by expanding access to natural gas in rural, Northern and Indigenous communities. In an announcement on June 9, Premier Doug Ford unveiled the second phase of the government’s Natural Gas ExpansionCLIMATE CHANGE
Overview. Climate Change is a global challenge and impacts Ontario farmers. OFA has been working with the provincial government to recognize Climate Change’s current and pending impact on Ontario farm businesses, the importance of adaptation within the agricultural sector to the impacts of Climate Change and to provide research and investment to help farmers adapt.
