A CIRCLE OF WORDS: EMAILS TO BLOGS TO NEWSLETTERS Posted August 9, 2019by Om Malik
Dave Winer, the godfather of blogging, and in my mind, the singular most influential thinker on all things Internet, media and mediums, shared a link to a Wired post about DaveNet, which in 1995 was a forum which involved Dave writing an essay and emailing it to others and then creating conversations within those who read his stuff. That eventually led to blogs which transformed the media landscape. And now we are back to doing emailnewsletters.
Coincidentally my blog started as an email newsletter too — Dotcomwala — but eventually transformed into a blog. It is the same wine; bottles keep changing. In the end, what matters is words, thoughts, and continuity. Mainstream media folks, unfortunately, follow the hype, not a desire to write. In a weird twist of fate, the story was authored by Todd Lapin, with whom I worked at Business 2.0.A LETTER FROM OM

SEEING THE FUTURE THROUGH THE FOG Posted August 6, 2019by Om

August, the month known as “Fogust” around these parts , is a pleasant reminder of my fondness for fog. For the past sixteen summers, it has been a welcome presence. Posted August 6, 2019 by Om Malik A few days ago my friend Felix let me use one of his Fuji cameras. It has been a while since I owned an xPro2 and forgot how much I love that form factor. I don’t much care for the Fuji rendition of raw files – not sure why, but I prefer my SL and its muted DNG files. But, back to Fuji — I am just impressed how much complexity they have packed into their cameras and made a menu that is human understandable versus Sony. That said, you will take my SL from my cold dead hands. I believe love is forever – even when you have shortcomings that annoy the hell out of you — in partners and in cameras, or vice versa. Have a beautiful week of great photos and enjoying the slow wind downof summer.
